buyer beware? my fiance and i are extremely saddened and disappointed over our experience with the hidden chateau, and never in a million years could we, in good conscience be able to recommend them. we met with jill, very excited about having our wedding there. we specifically discussed the fact the we had a budget that we needed to stick to and jill assured us that it would not be a problem. regardless, she led us in direction that was much more expensive than we discussed. she even wanted to charge us to rent extra toilets because her venue's bathroom situation couldn't accommadate 75 guests comfortably. when we got the proposal back it was thousands of dollars beyond our budget, we told her that unfortunately, we couldn't afford it. we felt she should have guided us and made sure that this would be doable before taking a $1200 'non-refundable' deposit. after speaking with her about our dilemma, she agreed to give us back $850. 2 weeks went by without hearing from her or receiving anything. she didn't return several calls we made to her so finally we had to try to speak with her face to face. she told us she'd changed her mind. she said she was 'advised' not to return any portion of the deposit. we tried to give her every opportunity to do right and told her we'd appreciate her kindness and ultimately use her facility some other time. she still refused. she had no other wedding scheduled that day and it was 7 months in advance so there was no hardship to her or her business. she just wanted to keep the money. jill mulligan is unethical and misleading with her business practices. she'll pretend to be very kind at first, but watch out for her. she is ruthless and heartless when it comes to money. the place is nice, but she is not. buy at your own risk. we are taking her to small claims. if you want your wedding to be a positive experience, we recommend trying elsewhere.

this is not a tea house. it is a location you can rent out and have a tea party, or wedding, etc. at. it is very nice and would make a good location for a fancy shower. but don't drive there expecing tea..it's a venue- not a restaurant

I hosted my daughter's bridal shower here. The staff is professional and very helpful. We were given the history of the place before we started to eat. Building reminds me of places I visited in Italy. Highly recommend this place for any type of party or wedding. We were here September 9, 2007

This was a very cute place for a bridal shower, and the staff are very accomodating, friendly and attentive. The location is very quaint and charming, and feels just far enough outside of LA but yet just a short drive.

Charming and yummy! The whole presentation from food to tea was a treat and a delicately, professionally, orchestrated event. I went for a baby shower and had a wonderful time!

I love this place!!! it is sooo beautiful, I feel like I'm going backward in time, where there's no hurrying. I've been a couple of times to the Chateau and I've loved it every time. The food is incredible, especially the curry chicken salad....that really knocked me out. I will definitely go again.

I had my bridal shower here last year and I must say it is a lovely outdoor location for spring and summer. The selection of teas was limited and the sandwiches were ok but the real treats were the scones and spreads. Yummy!

They have changed their format & are now only offering 'tea parties' for groups of 20 or more.

The location is private, relaxing and elegant. I hold the 'Hidden Chateau and Gardens' as one of my favorite feminine hideaways in Southern California.

I went here with quite a large group and we agreed that this was very overpriced for what you receive. There was ONE selection of tea; I don't know if this is because we had a large group but it was a bit of a downer if you didn't happen to like it. The food looked like you could buy it at the supermarket; the desserts were Hershey's kisses that they left wrapped in the foil. Again, these problems could have been our group size (about 20) so I would say for sure that larger groups are not recommended. It was a real shame because I was looking for a good tea room in the San Fernando Valley...this was not it.

It is our desire to provide a 'storybook experience' to all those who come. As a result, we will work on improving our variety, artistry, and service in the future. We are always honored to be part of special occasions.

i felt this was overpriced for what it is. the food and tea selection is very poor. you must warn guest that you will dine on a covered patio with outside heaters on chilly day. also the antique store is very cramped and hard to get around even if you are able body. the parking lot is just a grave lot with no marked spots. also you can only have private parties no single tea goers.

      Tearoom response:

As the young owner of this afternoon tea location, I appreciate the comments that we receive from our guests because it helps us determine how to improve our services.

For those who are not familiar with the Hidden Chateau & Garden, the building was originally built as a horse stable by a silent film actor in the 1930's. It is now a Cultural Landmark in Los Angeles, so the historical society encourages a vintage look & feel. Therefore, it retains a more rustic ambiance than most traditional tea houses.

Indeed, the parking lot is not paved, and an old-fashioned wagon rests permanently beneath the trees. Personally, I found the location very charming when I first discovered it, and the dusty corral has now been transformed into a quaint garden with trickling fountains and flowering native plants. We feel fortunate to provide afternoon tea parties among stone archways on an open patio area.

After consulting with others, we decided to cater to parties who are seeking a private garden area for groups between 20 and 50 guests. Since we don't book parties simultaneously, guests are allowed to mingle and meandor as they please. Baby & bridal showers usually plan activities and open gifts beneath the trees in the garden.

Of course, the disadvantage of hosting events outdoors involves the element of weather. As a result, we encourage clients to plan events at other locations from October through early Spring. Once the weather improves, we can provide heaters if it's chilly, and we have a covered portico which provides comfortable shade during the hottest days of summer.

As another year is budding, we look forward to a season of growth and improvement. Thank you for participating in our development.
