Savory (3 reviews)
The restaurant’s modern setting was beautiful and then it all went down hill from there. It was not your traditional afternoon tea, by any means. The served tea bags and hot water, with sugar packets! The 3 sandwiches you got were dry and lacking any flavor or originality (chicken, egg and Ham and cheese). The chocolate tart dessert was by far the favorite out of the group, the rest I wouldn’t be surprised if they were store bought. The scones were hot and pretty good but were served last which was strange. There is no way I would go back and I was embarrassed to have brought my family.
This is a very fine restuant that only serves afternoon tea on Saturdays. But it's worth the wait! The chef is from the Four Seasons and knows afternoon tea. The style is very new and cutting edge. I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more tea services like this one soon, but Savory is the first in San Diego. No ruffles here, just pure class. They do use tea bags, but it is Mighty Leaf tea (full leaf)and is very good. The food and presentation were wonderful. The service was top notch. My teapot and water glass were never empty. I would recommend Savory afternoon tea to everyone (even men) who want to try something fun and new!!
The finest restaurant in Encinitas has only recently begun serving Saturday tea. It's an original, modern, low-key interpretation of traditional afternoon tea. Finger sandwiches are cleverly open-faced and wonderfully seasoned. Large, fresh sultana scones are as good as I've had anywhere. The atmosphere is spacious, comfortable and quiet. The service is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and unobtrusive. A hidden gem in suburban Encinitas.
