Our ladies group from church went to Tea By Two and we were welcomed like we were old friends. They were very happy to have us and treated us like queens. The food was delicious from the tea to the soup, sandwiches, scones and desserts. We are going back again and this time there are even more of us. My sister is arriving from Florida and we are making arrangements to go. It is worth the trip. Karen

Some members of my Tea and Read Group along with a couple of friends recently went to Tea by Two for the Farewell to Downton Abbey Tea. What a wonderful treat. The Dowager was the guest speaker and she gave us so much information about her past, fashions from the time and was just wonderful. The food was tasty and atmosphere was lovely. Thank you for a wonderful day.

My mom and I recently went to Tea by Two- we've been going to tea together for over twenty years and have been to quite a few tearooms. This one was a sweet little tearoom, with delicious scones. While it's not my favorite tearoom in MD it is worth the time to visit. The service was good, and prices were reasonable. If I was in the area I would visit again.

My husband and I visit tea rooms all over and we were very disappointed that when we called to make reservations we were denied service - they do not make reservations or serve tea for only two people. Why do they call themselves Tea by Two???? If we had a larger group, they would serve us with or without reservations. We call far enough in advance, so that wasn't the problem. It wasn't that they didn't have seating, but they outright said they did accommodate such small reservations or seating. They needed to keep the space open for larger groups. Needless to say we won't be recommending them.

      Tearoom response:

Hi Mrs. Walker, we appreciate your comments about the seating problem you encountered. I must admit we were all baffled by your experience as we do seat customers whether 1 in the party or more. We do not require reservations for groups under 6 people. If your party stops in and we have an opening, we are more than happy to seat you, however, we do recommend reservations so you will not be disappointed. We require reservations for groups of 6 or more. It would be a great help to us if you could call us and ask to speak with either Janet or Erin as the information that you received regarding our reservation policy was false, we would like to discuss how to rectify it. You can reach us Tues - Sat 9-5 at 410-838-8611. Sincerely, Janet

I recently finally got to go to this lovely little bel air treasure. my mother and I and my niece were very happy with our experience. the tea menu was excellent and the scones were obviously very fresh. my niece could not get enough of the chocolate chip scones! I enjoyed lunch here with my sister and was disapointed that the tea was only warm, not hot. Our salad was good but the sandwiches were either bland or bitter. One if the desserts was a cookie that seemed store bought, the rest seemed plain. I had very high expectations and unfortunately they were not met.

      Tearoom response:

Beth, Thank you for your candid review. I am sorry that our food did not meet your expectations. We strive for quality and excellence in all that we do and unfortunately this was not your experience. I can assure you that all of our scones, sandwiches and desserts are made on the premises and not store bought. In regard to your tea not being hot enough, please do let us know and we would be happy to brew you a new pot. If you would be willing to give us another try, please contact me. I would be happy to offer you a coupon to return and give us a second chance to delight you. If you are interested, please contact Erin 410-838-8611.

I am delighted that Tea by Two is now offering gluten-free menu items. My mother and I recently enjoyed a lovely gluten-free light tea which included delicious white chocolate apricot scones, assorted tea sandwiches, and a pot of tea. The scones were warm, tender, and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. The tea sandwices were tasty and attractive. The tea was brewed to perfection. Tea by Two has always been one of my favorite tearooms, and I look forward to many enjoyable visits with family and friends in the future.

What a lovely relaxing setting for sharing high tea with a friend. The pastel yellow walls and white wainscoting create a cheerful ambiance with the pretty floral table skirts.Marty was our server today as well as last week and she is an absolute delight and quite attentive to our every need. Changing flavors of tea from the extensive list of teas or keeping the teapot brimming with fresh hot tea is her every wish to make your tea time special. Each course was tasty but I LOVED the lobster bisque today as well as the Brie bite and chocolate ganache tart. I am sure you will find your visit to Tea by Two just as pleasant a memory as we did.

My mother & I were delighted with the selection of teas, so many to choose from. No worries, everytime you have your pot refilled, you may choose a different tea. One tip, if there is no parking out front, just park in the lot to the right of the building if you are heading south. Also, if you are expecting English clotted cream with your scones, you will only find whipped cream. However, the lemon curd was very nice.

This is by far the best tea room I have visited. The decor is eclectic and lovely...down to the necessary room! Food is delicious and the selection of tea is wonderful..and if you don't like what you get, choose another! Service is prompt and outstandinly pleasant. The gift shop is lovely, too, with many unique items. If you like tea, good food and wonderful service in an inviting atmosphere, you will fall in love with Tea By Two.

This was the first of four teas for me and my granddaughter for our mini 'Tea Tour'. We could not have been luckier - as it was perfect in every way. The only problem was that it set the bar very high and the next several tea rooms we visited were huge, expensive let downs. Fortunately, the last tea room we visited brought it home again and reminded us again of how well-crafted and beautifully presented the tea service was at Tea by Two. Tea by Two is definitely at the top of our list - and it should be on top on this site as well. I believe that as the word blazes throughout tea-drinking people it soon will be! The absolute best feature that this tea room offers (besides all the other great things...lol) is bottomless tea. And if you don't like what you choose, they will whisk it away and bring something you will like. I remember being shocked at a pricier place that not only did not allow for me to sample several teas but to choose just one and which arrived in a lukewarm tiny teapot and too bad if I did not like it. Additional pots of tea were $3.50 each! That seemed to be the norm until we hit the 4th tea room - again - unlimited choices. I realize now that not having the choice of tea selection is a deal-killer for me...and any other tea rooms will not be patronized by me if I see the stinginess that I encountered at those pricey places. It is a 'tea' room after all and what good is your 100 choice of teas if I am only stuck with one? I recommend Tea by Two to every one I meet and I am not surprised to hear people say - 'Oh - that's where I go!' Some tea room owners could learn a lot by visiting Tea by Two!

I've been to a few tea rooms in Maryland and Tea by Two is by far the best in the area. The atmosphere is quaint and perfect, and the service is phenomenal. Everyone that we encountered had a genuine smile and it was clear that they all love what they do. I had my mother and my 5 1/2 year old daughter with me to celebrate a Three Generations Tea, and they could not have been more thrilled by the whole tea experience (a first for both of them). Kudos to the staff for how sweet they were with my daughter :) The food was AMAZING! The scone was the best I have had, including the scones that I have had in England, and I cannot say that there is one suggestion I would make to improve anything. I just wish we lived closer, but perhaps a few trips per year will keep Tea by Two a perfect gem in our minds, and our trips there will be true special occasions. Can't wait to visit again!

I don’t understand why Tea by Two isn’t rated #1. I’ve been to a lot of tearooms and TBT is hands down, the best. They have an excellent selection of teas that are expertly prepared; their food is delicious; and the staff is cheerful, friendly and very helpful. The owners, Janet and Erin, go out of their way to be accommodating to special needs. Teas I highly recommend: Tropical Storm (rooibos/tisane), Creamsicle (rooibos/tisane), Earl Grey (black), Snowflake (black), Razzleberry (green). Their savories are very good, but the star of the show is definitely their soup. Most recently had their crab bisque and it was out of this world. Also, their scones are the best I’ve ever eaten. Finally, I want to mention one of their staff…Shen is one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met. She always makes our experience at TBT a pleasure.

Once again the girls have outdone themselves with the new tea addition of Pricess Catherine. It is a black tea and so smooth and flavorable. I am picky about the type of tea I drink and quite often don't like the fruited teas but this one with pomegrante and blueberry is so understated with the fruit notes that is more of a background thing then in the front. If you haven't tried it yet give yourself a treat and a cuppa. Service, atmosphere and food are always excellent at TBT. I have recommended lots of my friends and they have fell in love with it also.

My family loves Tea By Two! From the friendly, prompt, service to the delicious variety of teas this is the place to relax and enjoy yourself for a while. My mom, sister, and I have visited quite a few times but recently my parents moved to Florida while my sister and I are still here in Maryland, my sister is now getting married and my mother said 'we must have her bridal shower at Tea By Two!' The ONLY place she wanted to have it (and I most definately agree!)

Dear Disappointed Mom, there are several good reason why children under 5 don't belong at a Tea Room. Peace, quite, relaxation! I go to Tea to enjoy myself!, not to listen to a baby cry or a toddler run around. Tea Rooms are for adults. Most Tea Rooms have a no under 5 rule, some no under 8. Good rule!

My mom and I have gone to tea several times at different tea houses, but Tea by Two has been my favorite so far. This past visit was our second here, the first being my surprise baby shower last year, and this time we brought along my aunt and cousin. The tea was delicious, the food was scrumptious and the atmosphere was so airy and sunny. I can't wait to return again. I keep thinking about the Chocolate Strawberry tea that I tried for the first time...yum!

Tea by two is a small tea room. I am the mother of a 9 month old little girl. I would not want to bring her there. There are many things that can be broken. As for my son (7) we just went in may and he LOVED it. They treated him like a little prince. He keeps asking me when we are going back. I think it is child friendly not baby friendly. (which I totally understand) Babies come with a lot of stuff and in this small tea room I understand why.

Tea by Two has been a haven for those times when I just want the world to stop. With the calm, quiet atmosphere, the excellent service and great tea and treats, it gives me a mini-vacation without leaving after hard days teaching. I recommend the Causal Cup for if you are looking for a more child-centered tea room. I applaud these ladies for creating an adult-centered environment for them to escape the speed-driven, chaotic world we now live in. Thank you for bringing your vision to fruition and sharing your love of tea time with adults in the Bel Air area.

In response to 'Disappointed Mom,' I truly support Tea By Two's policy regarding children. A tea room is not an appropriate venue for small children. A tea room is a place to escape the realities of daily life for a short time, a place of comfort and refuge, a place to relax and enjoy the moment with special friends. Unfortunately, I have had a few instances where my tea experience was interrupted by unruly children whose parents disregarded their children's behavior. Hopefully, Tea by Two will maintain their current policy.

    • Disappointed mom

I think it is such a missed opportunity that this tearoom does not allow children under 5, including nursing babies. This is discriminatory and honestly seems like poor business to me. They could make so much money hosting children's teas and instilling a love of tea in our younger citizens. To have a policy not even allowing them in the building is poor business and offensive. As much as I would like to be able to bring my family to tea here, we go to a different teahouse that is much further from home, but welcoming to families.

I went to Tea by Two today and my friends and I had a blast! I loved trying all of the different teas but Grandma's apple pie tea was the one for me. The soup we had was Brie and Mushroom soup which was to die for, I could have ate the whole pot! I am not much of a scone person usually because of how dry they can be, but the cranberry scone I had today was delish! I will definately revisit Tea by Two. The service was also wonderful! My sister was visiting us from England so we took her to 'Two By Two'. We thought that the place. people and presentation was excellent. The tea however wasn't as hot as we would have liked - maybe a little tea cosy over the pot would help. Everything is wonderful, except for their insistence on sharing pots of tea if there are over 4 or 5 folks together. I really like my kind of tea, and I don't care to compromise to drink someone else's choice. For the price, individual pots should always be the rule. Other than that, this is a top notch tea room with very tasty items--salads/soups are great and desserts are good. Scones and lemon curd are in the superior range!

My first time at Tea by Two was in 2004 during the hottest day in August. Then I brought my grand daughter on another hot day in the summer, she thought, how could we drink hot tea on the hottest day of summer? We both loved it! Last year I was able to get my Mom from the Hospital in NY to visit me for the last time before she died of Cancer, I wanted her to experience what I consider a must have treat, she was sick but not too sick to enjoy the food and exquisite service. I have also brought my Husband and he loved it. They made him feel like a King. He loved Tea by Two relaxing and delicious food. We are always treated with such class. I have visited several Tea Houses from NY to CA, but Tea by Two is my favorite!

We have been to other tea houses in the area and found this one simply wonderful! They both went on to say how delicious everything was. The tea selection was good for Febuary, and brewed perfectly not too weak. But just right. The scons were fresh and warm. The taste of everything just danced on your taste buds. The place was beautiful and cozy as well. The staff was so friendly and warm. And the gift shop was sweet as well. We will be back for sure......can't wait to return! I have been to several teahouses in the area and done several 'afternoon teas' including one in London England. My daughter and I shared a delightful afternoon at Tea by Two. I had noticed this tea room for over a year but had never had the opportunity to visit until today. The food was delicious and the variety of tea extensive. It was simply charming and cozy and we will definitely go back.

Tea by two is a lovely place to escape to and find comfort in the atmosphere and food. My two friends and I try to go there as often as we can. Each tea visit is always relaxing and refreshing.

I had never been to a tea room before I took my mother there for the Mother's Day event. Tea by Two came highly recommended from a friend. The food, service, tea and atmostphere were excellent! The scones are truly the best I have ever had. I have been back since for regular high tea and I plan to visit as often as I can!

My sister and I enjoyed an absolutely delightful afternoon tea at Tea by Two. The tea room was quaint, the presentation fun, the food delicious, the gift shop inviting, and the owners most gracious. What a great experience we had. Will definately return!

When my mother, aunt, and I stumbled upon this tea room last year we were suprised and thrilled to have found such a place. The tea was excellent, the setting of tables and different sets of tea pots and tea cups only added to the wonderful experience we had that day. Later that year my aunt and I planned to have my mother's birthday at Tea by Two. While the service was pitiful, I believe it was Susan who made us feel as though she was better than us, but we were given new teas that made us want to come back for more. I am only sixteen so I decided to try the tea and sweets where I was provided an exquisite chocolate chip scone, a pot of tea and many desserts. My mother and aunt got the high tea which they said was wonderful but they always left your store feeling empty and hungry. We even joked about going to TGIF next year just so we could get a feeling of having actually eaten something. We came back for my birthday and it just proved my point, we can only go to Tea by Two once and come out of the experience feeling as if it were all worth it. The more you go back the more you tend to see that the amount of food you are getting for the price is definately not worth it. I would like to commend the owners on the tables and decor of Tea by Two which I still love to look at, but I would suggest you offer a little bit more food for the price we pay. I would recommend this tea room to friends and family who have never been before just so that they can see the decor and taste the teas, but I would not recommend going back a second or third time. You always leave feeling hungry, and yet what you pay could be the equivalent of a steak at Chiles.

I had the distinct pleasure of going to Tea by Two for their Christmas Tea last weekend. It was delightful. The crab soup was superb and the sandwiches yummy! The teas were good enough to purchase to have on hand over the holidays. My only regret was that I had to pay in advance for both of us attending, and we wanted to go dutch. Tea by Two charged my credit card back in October when I made the reservations so I felt awkward asking my friend to pay me afterwards. Paying the day of would have made it less awkward.

      Tearoom response:

We are glad you enjoyed your Christmas Tea at Tea by Two. Just to let you know, we only require pre-payment of tea for special events, like Christmas. Our daily business does not require pre-payment for tea. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I am sooo grateful I chose Tea by two for my sister's bridal tea! Everything was fantastic...the atmosphere, the service, the owners-Janet and Erin, the food and the price! We were soo touched when they went the extra mile to create a special wedding style cake with fresh flowers and tuxedo strawberries just for the occasion! Thank you soo much for making her day so very special. I would recommend this tea room to EVERYONE!

I love going to tea rooms, but when I went to this one I was not impressed. I really enjoyed the soups, but the sandwiches were boring. There was not much atmosphere, but the shop alone makes the trip worth it. If I go back, the main reason would be the shop.

i am not a tea drinker, but was finally coaxed into going to Tea By Two. I first fell in love with the gift shop, which you walk through to get to your table. Since I only drink decaf, the waitress offered to decaffinate any of the regular teas for me, even though they had a menu of decaf teas. The high tea was great. All of the courses of food were delicious, the waitress was most gracious, and the atmosphere was just as nice. We were not rushed, and encouraged to try different teas. Wonderful place!!!

After years of taking tea at this tearoom with friends and family, there is never a time that I walk in the door without getting the warmest of welcomes. Many times accomodations have been made for me even when I could not reserve ahead of time. These days, even that is not always possible because I realize everyone wants to have tea there and space is at a premium!! The wonderful atmosphere, personnel, and delightful food leaves me feeling ready to take on whatever the day has in store for me. The scones here can not be equaled anywhere. Long live Tea by Two.

I stumbled upon this tea room by accident a couple of years ago and I absolutely love it. The best scones of any tea room. I have taken several people there for special occasions. Lovely gift shop too.

This is a delightful oasis in the heart of downtown Bel Air. Went with a friend just to find out what it was all about and have been coming back almost monthly for the past 3 years. The owners and staff are delightful and very helful. They make every visit a delight. There is a good selection of teas for your taste testing. The scones, sandwiches and sweets are quite heavenly. They offer a variety of quiches during the month along with a cranberry/nut salad. My friend and I try to visit often. They do offer Special Teas several times a year - such as for Mother's Day, Christmas and around St. Patrick's day. Reservations are most definitely needed.

Please disregard my last review (6 times...)! I was writing about a different tea room by mistake! I actually loved Tea By Two,one of the best ones I've been to in terms of quality of food. Nice gift shop too. Pretty fabrics inside for tables, etc. Will be going back soon~!

      Tearoom response:

Thank you for taking the time to review our tea room. We appreciate all comments from our custmers. We did want to make a few comments regarding this review. Our prices for tea have not increased, as we still charge $14.95 for High Tea. We do change our menu, however on a weekly not monthly basis and we do make all of our own desserts on the premises. Again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you again.

Tea by Two, Bel Air MD

We brought my grandmother for her 76th birthday. It was the most enchanting time we ever had!! The food, the teas and the desserts were just decadent. We felt so girly when we left. All the women in my family are hooked. We will definitely be back!
