Tea Essence Inc. (4 reviews)
Tea Essence has closed its doors.
I've been here three times, since it's the closest tearoom to me, at twenty minutes' walk away. The first time, I had the white 'monkey-picked' and it was nice enough. The second time, I arrived at fifteen minutes until closing and was informed that the register had already been emptied and that they were closed. The third time, at 9:24pm, the door was already locked, in defiance of the cheerful 'OPEN' sign sitting in the window. Apparently the proprietors have concluded that their chances of being robbed in their final hour of business surpass the chances of anyone buying tea, and have altered their strategy accordingly. Call ahead if you don't want to make the trip here in vain.
I loved the Chicken Pesto Panini, WOW, they had a large slection of tea that you can smell and look at in seperate clear jars. I like that, the girl seemed grumpy at first but was sweet by the timeI left an hour later. It is a very relaxing place, FWI: check out Celestial, it is the best.
Tea Essence is a great addition to Chicago’s tea scene. Their tea comes from many different vendors and they blend themselves. A large selection of loose leaf tea is ready for you to smell and inspect from small, clear jars. I tried the Raindrop white blend; it was delicious. Passionate owner Tanya is excited to talk about tea and you can sense her enthusiasm for tea in the blends she creates. It is a comfortable place with a variety of types of seating and a colorful modern vibe. I look forward to my next visit to talk tea and try their innovative blends.
