What is so impressive is the china collection that is actually used. One is served on this fine colorful china and each diners place setting is unique. The place is very colorful and inviting. The foods are homemade and very delicious but I can sympathize with those who dealt with them running out of things, no lemon curd and no milk for tea, had to use half&half. The scone was fresh and generous, as was the portion of quiche, Sandwiches and desserts a little small for the price but very tasty. A little pricey but I still recommend The Butterfly Tea Room and will return the next time we are in Cape May.

So much fun! Clean, cheerful and friendly! Our Red Hat's found the food was tasty, strawberry soup and brocolli cheddar quiche were wonderful. Tea selection expansive and served quickly. Ms Rose went twice and had the exact same complaints! Must be carrying around a tuna...

We traveled almost two hours to this tearoom for an utter disappointment. They ran out of soup. They ran out of quiche. They ran out of scones (we had the last and the next groups of people had none).. They ran out of lemon curd. They gave us about 2 tablespoons of jam and clotted creame for 5 people. The sandwiches had so little inside, one of them, the chicken salad, I saw some chicken, but, tasted just bread, there was so little. The bathroom had paper towels on the floor from a few visits of others. They did not clean up the one bathroom that they had. The portions were sparce and we left hungry. The food is not served on individual towers, this is an inconvience and done poorly. The desserts were half the size or other tearooms that I have went to and the sandwichs were weak in taste. I felt robbed from this 'special' experience after the bill was paid and we had to seek food elseware. Bad show Butterfly Tearoom, I'll never be back!

I took my friend for her bday tea. Greeted cheerfully at the door and made to feel welcome from start to finish. Maybe 1-2 more tea sandwiches? Great time!!!!

We just popped in. I wanted a good cup of tea b/c I was disappointed with other establishments. There is nothing better than a good cup of tea. You delivered. But, the scone, although tasty, was overcooked which made if very dry.

My uncle, a dearest of dear friends, and I enjoyed tea at the Butterfly Tea Room just recently. Sometimes, the setting is lovely, and the food and service are lacking. But at this lovely little shop, everything - from the greeting at the door to the last drop of tea, was such a delight! I could easily go very frequently, if this cheerful tea room wasn't in NJ and I in Colorado!

What a fabulous find in Cape May! A beautiful Tea Room in a lovely row of pastel-colored stores. The butterfly theme was very well done and very cheerful. The tea selection had something for everyone! I shared afternoon tea with my kids (16 & 18) and we loved it! We started by choosing our very own teapot from an extensive collection! I loved my Precious Moments teapot design. The finger sandwiches, sweetbreads and desserts were excellent and service was extraordinary. Would love to see some more varieties of scones! We will absolutely go back next time we are in Cape May and will highly recommend The Butterfly Tea Room to anyone visiting.

I've been a patron of this tearoom since it opened in 2007. A visit to Cape May just isn't complete until you taste the scones, lemon curd, tea sandwiches and baked treats from Peg's shop. Summer heat won't ruin your tea room visit because you can refresh yourself with giant goblets of iced tea if you choose to. The 'butterfly' theme is carried throughout the shop in decorations and displays. Absolutely delightful!

The Butterfly Tea Room was a delightful experience! My friend and I enjoyed talking with Peg, the owner, about her tea room and we especially liked the wonderful desserts and the warm scones. We'll be back the next time we meet in Cape May!

My husband and I drove to Cape May over Labor Day weekend with the express purpose of visiting The Butterfly Tea Room. We called ahead for a reservation and had the most wonderful time. The tea room is situated among a row of colorful cottages in West Cape May. In perusing the menu I enjoyed reading about how the owner started her tea room, as a tribute to her mom—how sweet is that? My husband and I each had the copper butterfly tea, which was excellent. I liked the tea sandwiches, but I especially liked the sweets: a scrumptious brownie, a lemon bar, a slice of banana bread, and butterscotch mousse (or was it butterscotch pot de crème?). We also enjoyed our pots of tea, perfectly steeped, as well as our scones with accompanying spreads. Our server was very nice, as was the tea room owner. N.B. On our way back to the car, we enjoyed seeing all the butterflies visiting the huge butterfly bush outside the tea room, which added to the ambience. What a delightful afternoon. We recommend this little tea room highly, without reservation of any kind!

A gem!! The food, service and the decor was great!! I had been to the Carriage House Tea room at the Physics estate awhile back, but i wanted to try this tearoom when my mom and I went to Cape May and it did not disappoint! The owner stated they are signed on for another 3 years so we hope to make it back before 2013 so i can have that yummy peach tea again. Thank you for the enjoyable experience!

I visited this tearoom for the first time on March 20, it was a delight! The service was superb and very personal. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed picking out my own teapot. The price included tax and tip which eliminated the stress of doing the math. I've been to a lot of tearooms, this was the nicest!

We brought a group of 24 people and in a later survey of this group, the tea room received an average score of 4.6, on a scale of 1-5. What impressed most of us was not only the owner Peg, but also all the staff who were so friendly, as well as efficient. We were seated 4 to a table and every course had 4 of each selection. We would recommend this to all tearoom lover's

Came here with two girlfriends who never went to afternoon tea. It was definitely a nice kick-off to our girls-only weekend. The owner ofthe tearoom was soooo friendly and warm when she greeted us and was sure to check up on us throughout our tea. Our server was also very polite and efficient. It's a very traditional, cute, lace and roses type of tearoom. You get to pick your own teapot. We all chose the afternoon tea with soup. Two of us tried the chilled peach and it hit the spot on that hot afternoon! The food and pastries were very good, and my two girlfriends were very pleased and surprised at how full they became after some soup, sweets, scone, and finger sandwiches! The only thing I have to say is that I wish they had a wider selection of tea, I also love when tea rooms offer a really complex list of teas that you really have to mull over on. They also ran out of the Genmai Cha they were sampling. The teas they did offer did sound pretty good- we had between the three of us Earl Grey, White Peach organic, and Cherry Blossom Green. Our teas though were properly prepared and very tasty. Definitely swing by the cute orange tea house on route to the beach while in Cape May!

I visted the tea room on a Mom's Weekend away with some girlfriends. We had such a nice time relaxing, chatting, and admiring all of the lovely tea pots. Our favorite feature was that each guest gets to choose which teapot their tea will be served in. We had so much fun matching teapots to fit our personalities. Pat was delightful and warm and very welcoming. Afterwards every time we saw a pretty butterfly object for sale in one of the shops we went in we would say, 'Oh, this would be perfect for the Butterfly Tearoom!' Definately an afternoon we will remember.

My sister and I visited this tea room on Valentine's weekend. What a wonderful time we shared. From the moment you enter you find a relaxed atmosphere with lovely decorated tables and comfortable seats!! There are several items on the menu and a variety of teas to select from. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful in selecting our tea choice. The owner Peg, was a delight to talk with and truly made you feel welcome, and we loved her idea of choosing our own tea pot from the china closets to enjoy during our tea. Since this was Valentine weekend there were x-tra's to enjoy like chocolate fruit and and a drawling for a gift. I was the lucky winner!! Our tea sandwiches and all the sweets were very good. Thanks Peg, and we hope to see you again and enjoy another lovely afternoon. Thank you again.

It is clear that this tea room, The Butterfly Tea Room, has been created with a singular passion. Peg, the owner, is delighted to greet you personally, and takes a wonderful interest in having your visit be something special. Food, drink, service, and ambience come together because you are considered special. The graciousness of this place is very evident. Enjoy!

An awesome time was had by my childhood/high school friends. The five of us are planning a third trip to Cape May this year and we will defiitely include this terrific Tea Room. I've been to many others in PA and this one tops the list - the owner Peg is a delight to talk with and her staff is most courteous. So, we'll be back!! We were disappointed. We've been spoiled I guess, judging from the other reviews. I didn't find it cozy or inviting. The food wasn't much and too expensive. Our tea was not kept warm. The staff lacked charm. Sorry, but this one has been crossed off our list.

I had the pleasure of taking tea at the Butterfly with my grandmother last summer, when the tearoom first opened, and have since returned frequently. It has only improved over time! The tearoom offers a fine variety of full leaf teas, made hot or iced upon request, and boasts a wide variety of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, quiches, soups, and desserts, in addition to their top notch scones. Each course is served with obvious attention paid to its preparation, and the waitresses are always pleasant and helpful. Peg, the owner, goes from table to table, chatting with each customer, making sure that they feel welcome in her tearoom, and have everything that they could possibly require during their visit. Overall, the tearoom is a true gem, catering to the personal tastes of its patrons, and encouraging everyone to come in, sit back, and relax while they 'savor their cup of tea.'

We ventured upon this 'diamond in the rough' of a tearoom after being snubbed by the other tearoom in Cape May, NJ. Our visit to the Butterfly Tearoom was the highlight of our day! The owner was so pleasant on the phone and even more charming in person. The service was a bit slow, however our server was very sweet and just had a slower pace than we are accustomed to - no worries, we were on vacation and actually enjoyed the change in pace. My initial goal was to treat my mother and my 6 year-old daughter to a 'girly' day out in Cape May and the Butterfly Tearoom was our icing on the cake. We will be visiting there each year during our Cape May visit and highly recommend this place. The food was also very good and we left feeling fully satisfied, not stuffed. A nice assortment of finger sandwiches and pastries. The soup of the day, cold Strawberry Soup, was delicious and refreshing. My daughter loved her plate when it came out! A butterfly crystal plate loaded with tasty treats and a cream cheese and jelly 'butterfly' sandwich. Tea pots were beautiful and our tea cups were fine bone china. Had the Cherry Blossom tea and it needed no sweetening. My daughter loved having her own teapot and refilled three times! The whole place was clean and smelled delightful. The bathroom was also very nice (clean and pretty). Thank you for a wonderful experience. We look forward to next year's annual visit.

My husband took me here the day after Valentine's Day. I HIGHLY recommend this tearoom to everyone. It is at the top of my list of favorites. The owner was so hospitable. I loved her collection of tea pots and tea cups. The food and service were outstanding. I was even able to pick my own teapot with a cat on it. I enjoyed my tea lunch so much that I left briefly to call my mom and brag about how wonderful this tea room is and how she HAS to come with me. I also called my sister and all my friends to tell them about it later that day. I LOVED it. The owner and my server were so kind and accommodating. It made for a very happy day.

Recently I discovered this little treasure. My girls and I have become Tea House hunters, and this location was recommended by The Bird House and Sea Level shop keepers right next door. We were pleasantly surprised at the cheery decor and fine service. My girls especially enjoyed selecting a teapot from the graceful cabinets around the room. One child preferred an antique apple tea pot for her apple cider tea. Something for everyone! The menu and quality of our lunch was exceptional, we'll be back for sure.

Had my fourth visit to The Butterfly today. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. My tea selection was Irish Breakfast and I enjoyed the 'Monarch' tea service: scones, quiche, fresh fruit, baked sweet treats, tea sandwiches. I lingered over a second pot of tea. Service was perfect. This place is a real gem!

Wonderful place. My wife, mother-in-law, and I went there for afternoon tea. You pick out a tea pot and they bring it out to you. The tea was good (I had a rasberry flavored black tea that was a tad bitter/had to add sugar, which I rarely do, and is available only in the fall), the food - especially the lemon squares - were even better, and the service was impeccable. We were seated immediately, the staff was pleasent and attentive but not pushy. This added to the overall relaxing almosphere. My wife does not eat pork and when she asked about pork in the sandwiches they mentioned there was ham in one. They immediately substituted a different one, and placed her order on a different plate so the ham would not 'contaminate' her food. As good as the food and drink are, I really think the fast, friendly, and excellent service makes this place one of the best around.

I was taken back when they served the scones first but the owner visits every table and is open to suggestion to improve the tea room. It's brand new and I guarantee you this time next year you won't be able to get into this tea room.....great potential they just need to iron our some issues. I love that you pick your own tea pot, it really brings the room together as a whole, nice a friendly gesture. We're trying it again this week to see how they are progressing.

My daughter and I drove to Cape May from Ocean City on Wednesday Sept 19th specifically to visit this tea room after reading great reviews about it. Boy were we disappointed!! The service was so horrible, no one was getting served, and after waiting 15 minutes after being seated for someone to take our order, we sadly walked out. No one around us was being waited on either, and only one table had food. We watched as they finished and then waited and waited for their check. That table finally hunted down an older male gentleman to practically beg for their check. The menu looked great, the teapots were really cute, but unfortunately we never got to taste anything :(

We hosted a small wedding shower with three small children at The Butterfly Tea Room. The service was excellent! The owner was very charming, attentive and patient. She took special interest and care of the small children. We also ordered the Monarch - it was a remarkable experience. For the children we ordered a small plate of tea sandwiches, which were served on small glass trays - and the sandwiches were shaped like butterflies. The entire experience was memorable and I'm certain that we will be back!
