The Clipper Merchant is under new ownership and in a new location. It is in the historic Perry House in Bridgton Maine. We enjoyed scones with Devon cream and lemon curd, scrumptious!! Excellent tea selection. Owner Melinda (so sweet) has an onsite gift/tea shop. Recommend reservations, we had to come back an hour later, well worth it too! Parking is limited, but there is some on street parking, and municipal parking close by. Nice antique shop in adjacent barn.

This establishment was magnificent. And now it is only a pleasant memory, closed for the final time in Fall of 2014.

Visited in Sept. Atmosphere is lovely. Tea was not served hot, disappointing Had sugar packets on my table, where other tables had sugar bowls, would have preferred cubes. Sandwiches were fantastic. Scones were okay, but not the flavors the waitress quoted. Desserts were a this away. All served frozen and tasted like chalk. All this aside, I did enjoy myself.

      Tearoom response:

All of the Clipper Merchant's desserts for our 'London Tower for Two' are fresh and homemade. Our Autumn variety consists of Pumpkin cupcakes with Maple Whipped Cream frosting, chocolate brownies with ganache frosting, lemon squares, mini cheesecakes, and fresh raspberries, strawberries and sugared grapes.
Our guests often request demerara sugar cubes for their tea, so we have them placed throughout the Tea House and one has merely to ask and our servers will accommodate.
Our tea registry consists of over 80 teas from around the world served piping hot in warmed large tea pots and it is unlimited. We also place each pot on a tea light stand with a lit tea candle to keep it as hot as possible while our guests visit and chat for hours. We also refresh the pots of tea with boiling water and will also add more tea if needed.
It is our great pleasure to serve each guest to insure that they have a wonderful experience at the Clipper Merchant. One has only to ask, and we will do all we can to make sure their time her is memorable and enjoyable. Thank you.

Thank you Heather and Lisette for an outstanding experience!!! Every element of afternoon tea was impeccable. The selections on our 'Tower of London' were fresh, fancy and delicious. Well worth the 2 hour trip- we will be back with our 'men' from the household.

My mom an I shared the London high tea and it was great - some nice finger sandwiches (cucumber and cherry tomato, egg sala which was GREAT - maybe it had some mango chutney in it or something?, chicken salad with cranberries on croissants, and strawberry and cream cheese I think) - it was a great combination. It's far more filling than it looked! Strawberries dusted with sugar were scattered among all the other things, and there were warm blueberry and cream scones served with Scottish lemon curd and devon cream. And on the top there were some different desserts, but i actually liked the sandwiches and scones much better! Maybe I was just too full by that point :) The tea selection is VAST - literally probably more than 100 teas to choose from, even things like hojicha (roasted green tea, my favorite) and lots of different flavored teas. I tried the darjeeling, which was great. They served us little samples of their lavender lemonade too, which was great - they sell a little package of organic lavender buds and the recipe so you can make it at home. The place itself is full of stuff - antiques, old-looking new stuff, books books and more books, tea-related items for sale, and a vast collection of tea pots and tea cups and antique dishes. There's plenty to look at while you sit and enjoy your tea.

Hello, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how wonderful your tea house is. I took my mother there last Saturday as an early Mother’s Day gift and we both fell in love with the place. It was so very relaxing and beautiful, not to mention the tea and food were fabulous. Oh and the lavender lemonade? LOVE IT!! Thank you for providing us with such a nice experience. We definitely have plans on coming again very soon….maybe even this Saturday. Take care and keep up the good work! Cathy Richardson

I read that this is the First Choice of Yankee Magazine's 'Top Five Tea Rooms in New England, and they are absolutely right. This is worth the drive for the ambiance, the teas, the delicious luncheon selcections and the lemon curd... is out of this world. One of the best Tea Rooms we've visited.

Wow....My daughter took me to this Tea House for my birthday and what a treat it was!! The 4 tea rooms are beautifully decorated with many early antiques. Very nice classical music and the food was absolutely delicious and well presented. Our waitress Cierra was a just darling and they even gave me a free birthday dessert.

Visiting the Clipper Merchant Tea House for the decor and ambiance alone makes this spot worthy to be a destination, even if you have to go out of your way. Charm on top of charm. And then the food is extreme!! Do you know the level of detail to which the owner, Heather, goes to make her food the best? She has ducks in order to use the fresh duck eggs in her quiches, Scones and lemon and lime curds, so they will be richer. This is not just a tea experience; this is artistry! One can scarce remember being in such a place! It was a pleasure and treasure to be there in the ambience of this establishment. The staff showed such kindness and graciousness. It made one feel so happy and exceptionally special. The lavender ice tea, Darjeeling tea, Chai tea, tea sandwiches, the Cheese Vegetable Quiche, Chicken Salad Croissant, and Raspberry Cheese Cake, Chocolate lava Cake were tasty and wonderful !! One is NEVER put in a situation where you need to hurry to place your order for food, and hurry to get out. They will even brew coffee for you, if you so desire. I highly recommend finding the time to be there. C Barrows NH

Our book club came to the Clipper Merchant Tea House this month. AWESOME...it's what we were hoping it would be, and much more. Finally, a tea house that is more than what you expect. Prices were VERY resonable. Our server was charming and the room we were in was beautifully and tastefully decorated as in Scotland. We highly recommend a visit to this tea house. Also, a beautiful drive over through the country. Jane Lesperance

Thank you so much for allowing us to have our Ladies Bible Study at your tea House. It was wonderful to go to a place so elegant. I love the Victorian era, and since I've moved back to Maine to life in a 'back woods cabin', I don't get to have those fine things around me. It was a real treat to be there and the food was delicious. We all loved it. Thank you so much. Mrs. Dumont

In today’s economy, with rising gas prices, people are consolidating their car trips. 'At Once All Agog', a specialty toy store, draws customers from a 30+ miles radius. With a magical toy store at one end of Main Street, and the delightful Clipper Merchant Tea House anchoring the other, why not take a scenic drive to Limerick to shop and lunch? Main Street, as well as TheClipper Merchant Tea House, is listed as an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The Clipper Merchant Tea House is a part of this district and provides a great example of how a building listed in an historic district can be used to its best advantage. Heather and Gary Labbé offer gracious relaxation and delicious food – the lavender lemonade is “to die for”! The Clipper Merchant Tea House is a wonderful addition to our town. Candace E. I stopped by the the Clipper Merchant for the first time with a friend last Sat. Unfortunately we got there 10 min after it closed HOWEVER, the gracious hostess invited us to stay and we had a wonderful time! The tea was served in elegant teapots with warmers underneath. We had scones and they were served with delicious lemon curd and fresh whipped cream. Her daughter served us some lavender lemonade which I absolutely loved and ended up buying some lavender to take home! The atmosphere is so lovely, warm, and inviting. I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed!

We just want to say 'Thank You' for our lovely tea party that we had on March 7th. The only other tea house that I've ever been to was 'The Jordon Pond House' in Bar Harbor. The Clipper Merchant Tea House has it's own charm and was every bit as enjoyable. My daughter, 17, enjoys collecting tea cups and putting on tea parties in our home. We really liked the Lavender Lemonaid you served us, and seeing we bought some lavender to take home, we too can serve it at our parties, for those who don't care for tea. Great Hospitality. We hope to visit again soon.

02/23/2008 Saturday In days prior to going to “The Clipper Merchant Tea House” the very least that we expected was a pleasant dining experience, as you will soon find, what we did experience, would be impossible to write in one sentence. In our world such as it is, with all the demands of our thought, time energy, and finances, it is such a rare treasure to have a moment to one’s self for peace, respite, and the preciousness of being able to take time to truly get to know the people dearest to you. Incredibly on our tiny blue planet there is such a place where one can experience such delights to ones sensibilities. The place I speak of is “The Clipper Merchant Tea House”. A group of women from Nute Ridge Bible Chapel Women’s Ministry had the distinct pleasure of being there for a Tea Luncheon. One can scarce remember being in such a place, that the pleasure and treasure were the Victorian ambience of the establishment, the kindness and graciousness of the staff, as well as the precious companionship of 5 other women. I cannot say enough how this day will remain a treasure for us, for a long long, while. We cannot wait until we can be there once again. The kind and gracious service of this establishment and staff made one feel so happy and exceptionally special. The lavender ice tea, Darjeeling tea, Chai tea, tea sandwiches, the Cheese Vegetable Quiche, Chicken Salad Croissant, and Raspberry Cheese Cake, Chocolate lava Cake were tasty and wonderful onto its own!!! This incredible place is where one can experience a wonderful Ladies Tea, a delightful Tea Birthday party for little girls, or an intimate dining experience with your special loved one. One is NEVER put in a situation where you need to hurry to place your order for food, and hurry to get out. They will even brew coffee for you, if you so desire. This is a place where one can truly experience moments of peace, tranquility, the specialness of life, and specialness of being. If you are in need of the pleasure and treasure where the ambience of the Victorian establishment, and the kindness and graciousness of the staff, makes one feel so happy and exceptionally special then I highly recommend finding the time on a Friday or Saturday between the hours of 11am and 4pm to be there. I also recommend that if you have a group of 6 or more that you call ahead and make reservations. Thank You “Clipper Merchant Tea House” for gifting us with such a special time. An atmosphere of warmth and welcome greets customers on arrival at the Clipper Merchant Tea House. The house itself, a Victorian Gem at the top of Limerick's Main Street, is decorated with period pieces, in cozy rooms which give permission to sit and forget the race outside. Heather and Gary Labbe, their daughter and staff do everything to make us welcome and comfortable. We return because as soon as Heather knows we have arrived she brews our tea, exactly the way we like it. She has done this every time I visit including when I have been a part of a larger party. The tea menu is all that one could want with delicious sandwiches including chicken salad on a croissant, and fresh baked scones served with lemon curd and Devon cream. The service is friendly and very accomodating. I took my two grandsons for tea recently. They are 3 and 5. Heather served them each with an individual tea pot so that they could pour and mix their tea as they like it and have learned from their 'English' Gran. The tea, the nibbles, and most of all the lavender lemonade, Heather's signature 'welcome', makes this a place that they will want to visit whenever they come to Maine. When asked, the 5 year old said, no this was not a girly place and he had enjoyed himself. What higher praise could any teahouse want? We are regulars, and delighted to have such a good place for treats in our backyard.

Our Group of 17 women went to this lovely Tea House just before Christmas. All the tea rooms were beautifully decorated for Christmas (not your average decorations), which made it special for us. Our waitress 'Becky' couldn't have been more kind and efficient and 'Gary', the owner of the Tea House, was charming to all the ladies. Our meals were served with excellence and they were delicious …also very ample! We loved using real linen napkins. We’re already making plans to go back for our spring fling!

While visiting Maine, I traveled to Limerick to try this Tea Room. The experience far exceeded my highest expectations! The tea service is unsurpassed, the homemade rolls, the beef barley soup, and chicken pot pie tasted delicious! The deserts were heavenly! The tea rooms are decorated like An English Victorian grand Mansion, yet are warm and inviting. The proprietor Heather, is a remarkable woman. Much attention to detail is given at this tea room.
