I've been to Olde World Tea Company on a few occasions with a good friend of mine. Historic Smithfield is a very idyllic small town and makes for a pleasant trip. Olde World Tea Company really fits in with the quaint surroundings of town. It makes for a special afternoon for my best friend and I when we visit. The food is very good and they have a nice tea selection. Their deserts were tempting enough that my friend ordered some for her bridal shower. And I have to mention the part owner Julie makes for a warmed welcome.

The atmosphere of The Olde World Tea Company makes you feel like you are surrounded by friends, which you are. The food here is amazing and will blow away any fast food place. Also the variety is outstanding. Over 60 different teas and new items on the menu every week makes it worth going to this place more then just once.

Olde World Tea Company is like going home. When you walk in the door, you are greeted like you are family. The owner makes it a point to talk to all customers and will greet you by name the second time you visit. The soups, salads, and tarts are made fresh daily, and is of a very high quality. They have recently expanded their menu, and now include 'Big Salads.' The desserts are to die for and there are numerous teas to choose from in addition to the two daily special teas. If you're not a tea drinker, the coffee, expressos, and latte's are very good also. Bring cash or your checkbook as they don't accept credit cards. Olde World is definitely worth a trip to Smithfield.

This tea room experience is far from snobbish. A coffee drinker myself, I was hesitant to order tea, thinking I had to have some conversational skills re: types of teas and when to drink what. Not at all! The owner is so friendly, inviting and knowledgeable, she instantly makes you feel like an old friend. She engages you until she figures out what you might like and then ...WOW, the best homemade soups, tarts, scones, cucumber sandwiches, sweet potatoe biscuits and ham, desserts galore ... and a heavenly wall of teas to liven the senses and cure whatever ails you. This is a MUST DO when visiting Smithfield, VA. This shoppe alone, encompasses the Heart, Hospitality and History that is Smithfield.

I'm glad there's a tea shop and cafe that know the true meaning of English terms. I had a high tea at Olde World no reservations needed...and high tea is hearty food on high tables so appropriately I had a bowl of soup, hot crusty bread, a 6 cup pot of personally chosen tea and a very unexpected Cheddar Dill Scone (on the house-as a new customer)...Everything Delicious, Delicious, Delicious

I am a bit of a tea snob and Olde World Tea Company is better than any English tea room this side of the pond. The owner has a wide variety of loose teas. She and her staff most accomodating to help one select the perfect tea. My wife and I enjoy the delicious soups and sandwiches (although my wife is now sold on her tarts). Each sandwich is served with a homemade soup (like roasted corn chowder, chicken and dumpling, or a legit gazpacho) or side/salad (I recomend sweet potatoe fries). The lunches are hearty, filling, and satisfying. Her tasty deserts are all homemade and are bite-sized. Her sipping chocolate and molten chocolate cake are award winning. Finally, you are treated like family. She greats you by name the second time you visit and attends to your table group as if you are the most important customer she has ever served. One more thing to note: she has outdoor seating (and is pet friendly) too.

Wr went to this tearoom in May 2010. My husband had the rosemary soup and I had a cream tea. (We had already eaten lunch!) The shop was wonderful and I spent lots of my allowance on tea stuff. I will definately go back!

This tea shop used to be on my weekly list of things to do. Unfortunately, it has become difficult to find the hours of operation. So, definitely call before going to see if they are open. They used to serve tea that you could choose from the selection for sale. Now, (at least the last time I was there) you could only choose the 'tea of the day', which you might or might not like. The retail selection of tea is incredible. Julie rivals Norfolk Coffee and Tea in her selections of tea for sale and that selection is fantastic. I have found some awesome teas that I have come to love from trying new things there. The found is out of this world! Julie is an awesome cook. Definitely call before you go to make sure they are open.

My mother and I have visited this tea room several times and have never been disappointed. Everything is made from scratch and is simply delicious. The owner, Julia is so personable and always makes time to come out and chat. She makes it apparent that this tea room has been her dream for many years. The tea room has wonderful atmosphere and echos the 'old world' feel of downtown Smithfield. Olde World is #1 in my eyes!
