I don't have an easy time eating out, so I've had their loose leaf teas at home and the taste, decent pricing, and sheer friendliness of the staff just make this place so wonderful. Having been stuck with the Teavana at the Cerritos Mall for a while, it was an absolutely refreshing encounter to go in and talk tea without feeling pressured to buy or having a sales associate following nervously behind. Two family members of mine ate here as a birthday brunch for one of them, and they were completely charmed with the whole thing - there's a little stand of hats you may wear for photos, or bring your own in. Highly affordable, and once I get over my personal foibles, I hope to enjoy a nice tea and scone sitting in this incredibly relaxing place. :)

We went to Elise's to celebrate two birthdays and had a lovely time. There was more than enough food served with the High Tea and endless pots of our chosen tea. The service was friendly and attentive. Thank you for a great celebration!

I am in love with this tea room. The owner is always extremely warm and accommodating, and the food is wonderful! There are a variety of teas to choose from (loose leaf) and all the flavors I have tried so far have been very good. I am very happy to have such a great place nearby!

What a disappointment this place was! Three-fourths of a sandwich without the crust makes a very tiny sandwich. The fillings were very thin. Each plate also had 1/2 of a paper thin orange slice and 1/3 of a strawberry. The scone was OK but the cream and jam were very sparse - a couple of teaspoons to be devided between 3 people. Also, somehow the $14.95 for each person ended up being $22 a piece. Dom't waste your money here!

I took my daughter-in-love, stepdaughter and 5 yr old granddaughter for our Annual Mother's Day Tea, and this year we chose Elises Tea Room. The service was great, the atmosphere was great, the scones were scrumptous, everything was perfect. I would recommend to anyone in the Long Beach area. I can't wait to go back!

This was a humongous disappointment. Don't waste your time on this overpriced tea room! The food was poor, the prices were high, and the ambiance just sucked! If you want to sit in a hole in the wall, you would be better off going some place else!

Charming Tea Room. The lovliest Tea Room I have had the pleasure to visit. Besides the lovely decor and excellent food...they offer etiquette classes for young ladies. I plan on having my granddaughter's next Birthday Party at Elise's. What a perfect way to expose my granddaughter and her friends on proper manners at an elegant affair. Give yourself a treat and take yourself and your friends to Elise's

We went to Elise's for afternoon tea and were slightly disappointed. Looking at the website, we thought the food would be decadent. The scones seemed as if they were freezer-burned: very dry and tasteless. The sandwiches were average to good. But the atmosphere was disappointing. The room was not very clean, quite gaudy. It just was not what we expected. The server was extremely pleasant, but quiet. Even though there was a 'Chess club' playing in the next room, it was quiet. We do not plan on ever returning there...sorry.

This is the first tea room that I started going to and I got hooked on 'going to tea.' The atmosphere is delightful and you get plenty of food and tea. I really enjoy the variety of scones and jams that they offer compared to other tea rooms that just give you plain scones with one jam and clotted cream. I prefer the lemon scone, it is amazing! The only complaint I have is the one male server who simply does not know when to leave you alone! Every time that we go and do not see him there my friends and I feel a sigh of relief. He is very nice but a little cheeky and will not give you the room to simply chat with the people you came with. I would recommend this tea room to a friend since everything else is wonderful. (I would suggest serving Yorkshire tea to Elises)

I enjoyed every aspect of Elise's except the tea. The selection was terrible and when I asked for a Ceylon blend I was given Lipton's. I don't drink Lipton's at home! They really need to take the time and effort to learn about tea and its preparation. Otherwise, the atmosphere was lovely, the food was excellent, and the staff was charming. It was not an atmosphere that catered to a long, relaxed talk with friends.

TEA BAGS? I can't believe this place calls itself a tea room and uses tea bags. The lack of selection (both tea and menu) is deplorable, but why don't they just give it up and call themselves a cafe? Because it is NOT a tea room.

Wow! What a WONDERFUL STAFF!! The owner Elise and her husband are wonderful and very knowledgeable! It was a charming tea room, and the entertainment room was beautiful. Elise's husband (our server) was one of the most interesting people I've met. What a great couple, and a great tea room. I'll be back again and again!

I'm spoiled, I guess, because I've been going to the Vintage Tea Room in Long Beach for years. But the cuisine at Elise's just doesn't measure up to Vintage's. And the choice of teas doesn't begin to come close.

My sorority sisters visited Elise's today for a delightful lunch. We were seated in the entertainment room which was perfect for the seven of us. Service was fantastic . We particularly liked the idea of being able to choose the kind of sandwichs and scones we wanted. Also, Marcus was the perfect waiter. I took my little sister to this tea room, I try to let her experience differnt things. Elise met us at the door and her charm was never turned off. The selection of tea was wonderful and the food was amazing. The scone was just right, the jam plate was quite good. Elise answered all of my little sister's questions (for a six year old, she has a lot) and she gave us one on one attention even though there were others there. My little sister ordered the Mango Passion Fruit, which was great and I ordered the Wild Rasberry, which was quite delicious. I can't wait to go back and I would definately reccomend this tea room to everyone.

I came in to tea on a late afternoon, and it was obvious Elise was not there because no one greeted me at the door. I could see two girls sitting in the back talking, but not got up when I came in. It was until someone had to come out the kitchen. As to a respone Elise wrote about training new staff, maybe she needs to train them better or get a better staff. If someone wasn't going to seat me, I would have left. I mean the sign does say wait to be seated.

I took my almost six year old daughter to tea at Elise's today. It was our first visit and will absolutely not be the last. Elise was so welcoming and the food and tea were wonderful. The menu consists of more than just tea sandwiches and scones, and includes salads and soups (today it was butternut squash as well as an asparagus soup). They also have a generous ala carte menu. I had a chicken curry salad on greens with pecans, bleu cheese, mandarin oranges and a light drizzle of dressing and it was fabulous! The pot of chamomile tea was just right. My daughter ordered the Child's Tea which consisted of a nice sized heart shaped pb&j, a pot of tea (she chose spearmint which was excellent) and a chocolate chip cookie. She also ordered a chocolate chip scone a la carte which came with jam, marmalade and cream on the side. The decor is lovely, formal and feminine, yet the ambiance is very friendly. Best of all, the tea was outstanding, and the prices are very reasonable. I've already told a friend and we plan to take our daughters in the next couple of weeks. I'm also hoping to attend one of the themed teas, which includes live entertainment. An example is an upcoming Mary Poppins tea and another featuring songs from Chicago. Sounds like great fun! I have finally found the tea house for showers, special mother daughter dates, and even just a quick bite for lunch!

After reading all the great reviews I must say I was disapointed by the food and the service. None of the food is prepared on site which in my opinion is a negative and the servers know little or nothing about tea or what they are serving for that matter. It seems to me it has been quite a while since Elise has been to her tea room.

      Tearoom response:

All our sandwiches are made in our kitchen and the scones are baked fresh in the morning. we are expanding and training new staff and when you grow you have growing pains. Wouldn't you know the first time in a year I'm not at the tea room. So sorry I missed you. I was off site with a tea event. We were giving a tea etticate for the school district. Thank you for letting me know how they do when I'm not there. I would love for you to try some of our new exciting tea events that are coming up. Check our web site for dates@ elisestearoom.com. On May 5 2007, we the ladies of Calvary Chapel Signal Hill reserved Elise's Tea Room for our Spring Tea. It was such a blessed event, the food was great, the place was so peaceful and the service was first class for our 35 guests! I highly recommend Elise's! I can't wait to go back!

Elise's tea service delivered everything a tea-lover desires: ambience (decor & music), excellent food quality, variety & portions, and of course, fantastic tea. (Try the Huckleberry Cream) And although it was a bit unique that the tea wasn't served in the traditional tiered manner, that was a small point given the overall wonderful experience. I can't wait to return.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this tea house, and will definitely be back. The food and service is better than other tea rooms I've been too. I would recommend that the restroom be freshened up -eliminate the dust and cobwebs there ( as well as on some of the shelves and displays in the main room). Also a bit of fresh paint on the baseboards and trim would enhance the lovely decor.

I have been a patron of Elise's since it first opened in its original location and for good reason. It offers one of the consistently best tea room experiences around. Having visited literally a few hundred tea places, I still look forward to Elise's tasty food, classy uncluttered surroundings and the warm demeanor of both her and her staff. Every change or addition I have witnessed has only added to what is a quality experience; and I am truly grateful to have such an enchanting oasis to frequent

I visited ELISE's tea room last week and i was quite disenchanted with the place itself but impressed with the service and staff apart from Elise. This tea room is a must see although cluttered you have to search for those diamonds in the rough. Afew down notes on this place is that it seems to be ALL about Elise, from figure skating awards that are years old and never been dusted to a wall dedicated to herself. I have to reconsider my visit next time as I am not keen to the clutter in this tiny room nor the way Elise herself brought all three courses with in a five minute span. Needless to say I felt like an unwanted guest in a playhouse of 'ELISE.' Asfar as the style suggested by tea maps; it is far from British. Scones are served first here.

I have to say Elise is one of the tea houses I go to the most. She has the best scones (especially the lemon scones) and her egg salad and chicken curry sandwich is the best. I visited on a Saturday as a party of one. I was not presented with silverware or a tea strainer. They had a large party and seemed overwhelmed. In addition, it appeared that kitchen staff was serving in the tea room as their aprons were dirty.

      Tearoom response:

On Saturdays and Sundays we dedicate the tea room to reservations, whether they be large parties or small groups. We recommend that you make a reservation in order for us to prepare for your arrival and have a table set and ready for you. We do welcome walk-ins, however due to the high volume of people that reserve we may not have room or a table ready. We recommend you wait to be seated so we can insure you a set table. Our kitchen and staff are highly sanitary and meet all requirements of the health department. We handle food throughout the day, however we strive to keep our aprons clean. During our high volume hours a few spots may escape us, and we apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

I went to Elise's Tea Room for the first time today with a friend and I must say out of all the tea rooms that I have been to so far I think I have found a favorite place! The food is great! Today, in honor of my girlfriend's 50th birthday...we chose Elise's for high tea...what a wonderful experience...there were so many teas to choose from...I chose the passion fruit, and my friend the peach/apricot tea...our scones were so delicious...just melted in your mouth...the bleu cheese salad was very tasty...My friend really enjoyed the chicken salad finger sandwiches...and the desserts were sooo sinful!! All in all...we both thouroughly enjoyed our tea, the service, and the ambiance that went with it! We both have gone to alot of different tea houses...this one ranks up there with the Best of them!! We both agreed we would come back...and sooner than later!!

My sister and I had tea here for the 1st time this past weekend and it is now one of my favorite tea houses. Elise was a wonderful hostess and made us feel so welcome. There was a nice variety of teas to choose from. My sister chose the french vanilla almond and I chose blueberry which I have fallen in love with. The flavor was amazing. I visited Elise's Tea Room on Christmas Eve. I ordered the High Tea. The tea was very good as were the sandwiches, scones and salad. The Quiche however, was a Nancy's frozen variety from any grocery store. I know because I eat them all the time! I thought this was really tacky. Quiche is very easy to make. The desserts were average to below average. Overall the food was disappointing. I don't know if I would go back.

      Tearoom response:

I regret to inform that you are mistaken with our quiches. They are not the type of quiches that you speak of. However, we do get them premade. In order to make them fresh, it will take a lot more time and money than a small business is made for. Being in culinary chef,I know that to make an excellent quiche requires a certain amount of technique and precision. People expect more from us, but we are just a small business whose goal is to provide a simple, yet delightful tea dining experience. During the summer we offered a new equisitely gourmet menu that included Marsala mushroom chicken, shrimp fettucini alfredo, chipotle chicken, and so much more. However, nobody cared to come for this special menu, and those who did not care to order this type of food. This is not the only time we've tried to offer something more extravagant and failed. Those who come here just want the simple sandwiches and petite desserts that we have offered for the past 11 years. So far, that is what have kept us in business. We only serve what people like. Also, in order to serve something more gourmet, the prices will be higher. People do not want to pay higher prices, and we do not wantraise our prices, which have stayed relatively the same for the past 11 years.

I visited Elise's on a Sunday, it was not that busy just me and a couple of ladies at another table. The service was excellent and quick. The scone was very good (Chocolate chip) the tea was also good chocolate mint. The sanwiches were ok, the bread was on the dry side and I wasn't told what they were. The egg was obvious and so was the cucumber, but I got another that was either tuna or salmon or maybe even chicken. That was the mystery sandwich. the place is beautifully feminine and romantically dressed

      Tearoom response:

I am very sorry to hear that you were uncertain of the sandwiches offered at Elise's Tea Room. However, we clearly list all the sandwiches on our menu. If you need help finding them on the menu we will be glad to show you. Otherwise, feel free to ask what they are and we will be happy to tell you. Also, if there is something you do not care for, we will be glad to change it in order to accommodate your needs.

I asked for Ceylon, which wasn't on the menu, and Chef Elise brought out the tea tin and described the region in India where the tea is grown. The butternut squash soup was exquisite - rich without a lot of cream. I got the 'light tea' but the apple-cinnamon scone was so good, I hate to get another one, the lemon, which was even better with the creme fresh and rasberry preserves. Yum. And just a dab, not too much, like in restaurants that want to stuff you. The cream cheese sandwich was a delight. And the finale -- a dessert tray of decadent petite fours and chocolate cakes, was perfect with a medium-sized rasberry cheesecake. I have visisted many tea houses and this shows the greatest care and culinary quality. Superb. Many kudos from a tea lover -

The variety and quality of tea which is brewed to the right strength and served very hot were excellent - I had one of the best green teas. Refill was offered at finishing my first small pot. The owner and staff were friendly and attentive, the decor pleasant. A scone was hot fresh from oven and one of the best I've had, albeit small in size (so is the cucumber sandwich which is open-faced, cut to the size/shape of a single cucumber slice). The sandwiches, rather limited in variety, tasted above average. I thought the dessert choices were rather dull though average in taste. Overall, it was a pleasant establishment with great tea.

Elise, our gracious hostess, prepared a superb delight for us, leaving no detail unattended. A choice of scones, fresh from the oven, with cream, excellent lemon curd, and preserves; wonderful sandwiches (our favorite being curried chicken salad); three delectable quiches from which to choose, perfectly flavorful asparagus soup, and scrumptious deserts, not to mention, a thorough tea menu, along with excellent/friendly service, made this one of the loveliest teatimes my husband and I have shared. We stopped at Elise’s Tea Room for the first time very recently. We found the service to be good and the proprietor friendly and informative. The tea we tried was very good. The sandwiches and scones (hard to find real English Style Scones) are most excellent. We would prefer real “Clotted Cream” but that is very hard to find and usually only at the more expensive Tea Rooms. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and have made our reservations for Mother’s Day.

      Tearoom response:

We may not offer clotted cream with our scones, but we do have it available for purchase. It is a fine quality brand that is shipped directly from England. However, we do offer devonshire cream with the scones made fresh daily from our secret recipe.
