One of my favorite places. Everyone is an expert and have always helped me figure out exactly what I'm looking to try. Portions were bigger than expected considering we were only planning on snacking and trying teas, but we had a well needed girls day there.

Great selection of tea. Food was very tasty, although not a typical afternoon tea. Their afternoon tea is only two courses (sandwiches and scones or sandwiches and dessert). The waitstaff was friendly, but seemed a little too busy to be attentive. They had many menu options in addition to afternoon tea. I would return.

We loved this place! Great little tearoom with art on the walls which was for sale. The tea sandwiches in our Afternoon Tea service were lovely. The apple scones to die for! Our desserts were tasty and nicely presented.

We've been coming to Silver Tips Tea Room for over a decade, and it is truly our 'home away from home.' The tea menu is terrific and wonderfully varied - it includes non-tea tisanes/herbal infusions, and in the summer months tea lemonades as well - and is revised annually. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and will be glad to recommend specific teas according to individual tastes, so first-timers shouldn't feel overwhelmed by the range of selections. Also, it's an excellent place to stock up on loose tea - you can also order through their website. Sandwiches, wraps, salads, quiches, scones, samosas and pastries are all of high quality, and there's a daily vegetarian soup; both carnivores and non-carnivores (like us) should be able to find a number of satisfying food options. (In the summer, there are tea ice creams as well.) Silver Tips Tea Room is deliberately male-friendly in decor and ambience, not lace-curtainy or formal, relaxed but not funky (for that, we'd recommend going round the corner to Coffee Labs Roasters!). You're likely to see everyone from students to families with young children to retirees enjoying lunch or afternoon tea. We're sorry to see that a previous poster appears to have had a negative experience. We can only say that over the years, we've come to consider Silver Tips Tea Room one of Tarrytown's most precious assets.

I have been to tea at so many places - particularly in the city. This place boasts that every visit is a treat. Then why was I left sick from being so upset the last time I went there? This is not the usual tea experience at all. It was not a relaxing visit. The service was worse than being served by the nastiest person at your local diner. Whether or not the staff is knowledgeable I do not know because they were only rude, argumentative and went out of their way to make us feel unwelcome. The food was even prepared and served in a way that was almost as if the person serving us wanted us to know we were not welcome. We were then asked to leave just a few minutes after closing time. We had to leave our almost full pots of tea and pack our very poor excuse for dessert - which to be honest went in the trash as soon as I got home. I didn't even want a reminder of this horrible visit. I suppose their variety of tea is expensive but I have been to tea where there was only about 10 varieties. If the service, food and experience is horrible I don't care much about how many teas they sell. They boast 'the full 'Afternoon Tea' service' - I would hate to see where it was patterned after. And the last line 'All in all - everything you need to have a memorable Tea experience!' It was certainly memorable. For all the wrong reasons. I will never be returning here.

Silver Tips was such a refreshing welcome on a cold Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by Jackie and the staff the moment we walked in the door. The food was delicious (I cannot get the Mediterranean sandwich out of my head.) The choice of teas made me swoon with pleasure. The dessert was delicious. The service was warm, friendly and attentive. I would move to Tarrytown to make this part of my everyday life.

Silver Tips is a place I love to go to linger over a pot of tea with a friend. Although everything is delicious and expertly prepared, my favorites are ANY soup they make, paired with a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich. I also love to buy their loose teas, as well as their beautiful tea accessories. Anupa and the ladies at Silver Tips are so friendly and so knowledgeable and the atmosphere is very relaxing and welcoming!

We have made Silver Tips Tea Room our Sunday afternoon destination for nearly all of its 10 years, a great tonic after hiking! We also restock our home supply of loose tea from the wide and carefully selected stock on sale here. From the start, we've found a welcoming atmosphere, and the recent expansion and renovation (to 34 seats) have markedly brightened and freshened the look of the tea room. As non-carnivores, we can comment only on the vegetarian items - salads, wraps, scones - on the menu, which we find fresh and tasty. We have vastly expanded our tea horizons under the discriminating and encouraging guidance of owner Anupa Mueller. Happy 10th anniversary, Silver Tips! And here's to many more!

Wonderful place to enjoy a cup of tea! Staff is very courteous and knowledgable. The owner is an amazing scholar of teas and offers periodic tea tastings. The food is fresh and well made. The desserts are 'to die for'. A wonderful treat for myself :-)

It is 8:45am as I sit to begin posting this review. I notice that it has been nearly a year since I last took the time to add my words of praise for the wonderful respite Silver Tips Tea Room offers. Fortunately, our visits have been far more numerous than my posts here! Our latest visit was just last weekend - can someone please tell me why we are denied the opportunity to enjoy Silver Tips Tea Room before 11am? I would have been on my way already! Last week we arrived before the friends we were meeting there. We started off with a shared scone and our own pots of tea. When our friends arrived we enjoyed the soup and, for the first time, an Afternoon Tea (sandwiches, more scones with cream and preserves, cake, and, of course, another pot of tea)! I wish I could tell you which teas we tried but, having had three pots of my own (and sampling sips of the other pots of tea we all enjoyed), sadly, I cannot. I will have to begin following the practice of another visitor I observed who had a small writing pad devoted just to recording her adventures with tea! I do know that one of the teas I requested was the new Green Kukicha. I was thrilled to find it as I have had it elsewhere and love its clean, fragrant aroma and refreshing flavor. I especially enjoy walking over to the preparation area to watch the care taken to produce each pot - the temperature of the water is monitored, the steep time is closely regulated, and the preparers are always open to discussion and sharing their 'tips' for making and enjoying teas. Well, it is now nearly 9am and I can't wait 2 hours - I'll start my own first pot here at home . . . perhaps the Prince Bodhi Dharma that I purchased on one of our many trips earlier this year.

      Tearoom response:

Michael - thanks for your very kind words. When we opened 9 years ago, we did some research and concluded that without coffee, opening earlier just didn't attract enough people and we know we couldn't do coffee well! Try the Atama Bancha the next time you visit or Celtic Cup. Abd come see us again. All the best, anupa

I had afternoon tea, a sandwich and a scone for dessert at Silver Tips last week. It was a wonderful experience! I ordered a tuna sandwich which was 'light' - the way I like it with a blend of herbs rather than loaded with mayo. The range of teas is quite impressive. I tried Earl Grey & a Hawaiian tea - both were well prepared & delicious. I ordered a scone for dessert & it arrived warm and tasty. It was by far the best scone I have ever had.

      Tearoom response:

Barbara - Thanks for letting us know - we appreciate it! That tuna sandwich has its very loyal followers! We're adding new teas next month so please come and visit again.
Best Regards, Anupa

I visited the other day and there was a lovely selection of teas, but the food and service were uninspiring. Perhaps the heat had something to do with it.

      Tearoom response:

      Dear Nancy,
We are now utterly perplexed! Bland food? Being ignored by our staff? It is very difficult to make changes without understanding the specific nature of your complaint. We are busier than we have ever been, all our feedback surveys are positive, our customers are heaping praise on us, we have standing room only on our busiest days and yet we continue to receive these odd reviews on a public website anonymously without any opportunity to make amends or counter your complaints. We take your feedback seriously but unless I hear back personally from you (or any other customer who has posted negative reviews), it is difficult to understand or make changes.

Visited during a halloween trip to sleepy hollow. The selection was good, the atmosphere was clean and crisp, not stuffy. The food and food selection was good, and service while good, was nothing overly welcoming.

My wife and I just went to SiverTips in early November and really enjoyed ourselves. Our server really went out of her way to explain the menu in detail...and there is quite a bit of detail to the menu. After studying we settled in on a variety of green tea which was excellent even by my wife's high Japanese standards. Our meals were also superb (I had a samosa which was a nice compliment to the tea on a brisk morning). I would certainly recommend SilverTips to all tea lovers.

      Tearoom response:

Thanks, Joel! We get the samosas made at an Indian kitchen in Queens, NY and then delivered fresh to us so they're authentic and excellent! Glad you liked them as well as the tea and your visit. Come back again! - anupa

While it is true that the ritual and sensory experience surrounding tea is inherently subjective, I am frankly bewildered by some of the comments that have been made on this site about Silvertips. My wife and I have had afternoon tea in a whole range of settings over the years and have found two tests that make or break the experience of afternoon tea. The first involves the selection and quality of tea offerings, and their proper preparation. Time and time again, we are amazed at the freshness and breadth of the tea selections at Silvertips. Whether it is the depth and power of their classic Makaibari Estate Assam, the fragrance of their Baroness Earl Grey, the depth of their Organic Rooibos, or the chocolate and fruity aroma of their Prelude to Bliss, there is something for everyone in this tea room. Moreover, I often catch myself starring in amazement as the staff navigates the maze of clock timers used to brew the tea in precise fashion. The second involves the service and quality of the environment that the staff creates, a measure of their ability to build “chemistry” with a whole range of customers from tea novices to tea aficionados. Here, the litmus test is whether the staff is able to provide excellent service that makes customers feel welcomed and comfortable. My wife and I find ourselves returning time and time again because the staff is so dedicated to their customers. They do their best to deliver a quality experience each time, and the choice of the word “experience” is intentional here. When we go to Silvertips, we are looking for an experience that uses tea to “feed” the spirit, something which the staff really understands. (I often wonder what the hiring experience must be like here, since this is a real demanding task!) The menu selections at Silvertips are amazingly varied and of high quality. The soups are first-rate, using a host of ingredients and mix of flavors worthy of that proud institution up the river in Hyde Park. We like the olive spread sandwiches, although admittedly this may be an acquired taste for non-olive lovers. Finally, the scones are to die for. The only thing I can think of that may have turned-off some visitors to Silvertips is the fact that it does get crowded at times, with people waiting in line for tables to open up. Since this can add pressure to what should be a calm tea ritual, I suggest you visit early in the afternoon.

I first visited Silver Tips in July 2007, after have gone to 'tea' in Savannah, GA for the first time. I was disappointed. 1) Presentation, I was expecting something more elaborate, especially for the price. 2) The price - their in-house menu suggest that the afternon tea is for two - other than the offering of a second pot of tea - It clearly was not. I was not please. One scone & One tart or slice of cake. The offering/selection could/should be better. I did go back with two others just theis week. The staff was friendlier and more attentive this time around, but the menu wasn't better. They do not offer any children friendly selections nor are they willing to subsitute e.i. plain turkey sandwhich

The variety of tea was impressive but that's about all that impressed us. The sandwiches were not very good or fresh. Dessert was not anything to write home about and again below average. The worst part of the experience was the bad scones. They were the worst scones we've ever tasted. How can one serve bad scones for afternoon tea and survived so long? Perhaps it was a bad batch or people only went for the impressive tea list. I was expecting a cutter setting and was a bit disappointed with the plain tea pots and tea cups. The service was cold and slow. I wish there was something plesant about this place so I wouldn't feel like a fool dragging a friend to this place.

      Tearoom response:

It seems we didn't satisfy you in any area whatsoever and I apologize if you felt our service was cold and slow. Perhaps our style of food, desserts and settings are not to your taste but I can guarantee that our food is fresh. Our scones get rave reviews and as recently as yesterday, one of our customers ordered them to be sent by air to Seattle! We survey our customers often and have not received any feedback similar to your review. Still, our aim is to make every visit a treat and I see we missed the mark with you. Please e-mail me at anupa@silvertipstea.com and I will certainly try to make amends.

I was there with a friend after raving about the shop and was a bit disappointed. I don't know if they were having a bad day, but the food and the presentation lacked flavor and flair. I will visit again to give them another chance.

      Tearoom response:

Hello Jackie - Please do visit us again and give us another chance. I would like to get some more details from you about the lack of 'flavor and flair' to see how we can improve things for you. Please e-mail at mail@seilvertipstea.com and that will come to me directly. Best Regards, Anupa

I’m a frequent visitor to Silvertips, and enjoy everything they have to offer. Interestingly, I never liked tea before my friends dragged me there about a year ago, and now I’m addicted to it! The variety of teas keeps me coming back for more, and the food is also delicious. Although I’ve been becoming increasingly good at brewing loose tea on my own, I find that Silver Tips is the place to go when I want a perfect cup.

This tea room is worth traveling some distance to visit. Their 20+ page tea menu alone is worth the trip. The preparation of the tea is exceptionally precise. You will never get a bad cup of tea here! As to food, there are many interesting selections. My personal favorite is the 'Tarry chicken'--quite probably the best take ever on the chicken salad sandwich!

      Tearoom response:

Thanks, Nate! No question, the Tarry chicken is a customer favorite! And very gratifying to know you enjoyed our perfectly steeped pot of tea. Our training is showing! Come back again soon.

I came here last year w/ a group of Red Hatters & I was VERY IMPRESSED! I am used to dining out frequently & have been to other Tea Rooms, & I must say the staff was professional, the food selection, portion size, price & TASTE was AB FAB! The decor was not overly feminine, as is in most Tea Rooms, which can be a plus, as it does not intimidate males who want to take their Lady out for a special treat :0D I was particularly impressed w/ the selection & display of the variety of teas, & even took several photographs while I was there! A must & worth travelling to! The tea, sandwiches, scones & desserts are to die for! I recommend the Tea Party for One!!!

      Tearoom response:

Thank you, Marie. I will share your kind words with our staff. I'm glad you liked our 'not overly feminine'decor because we do have many men who frequent our Tea Room and we wanted them to feel welcome. Come back again soon. Rgds, Anupa

A+++ Excellent and wide selection of fine teas. The staff was pleasant, helpful and very knowledgeable about the teas. Try the Smoked egg salad sandwich! Wow! What a treat! Decor is a bit cold but after a spot of tea and a friendly chat it warms up rather quickly.

      Tearoom response:

Your appreciation means a lot! We use Lapsang Souchong in our Egg Souchong sandwich, hence the smokey flavor. Come see us again and try our other sandwiches!

My daughter and I generally spend our days off together exploring new tearooms. And although we had a slight problem finding the shop (hard to explain - it's on the main street in Tarrytown, but we somehow drove past it at least three times!) when we finally did make it in to the tearoom, we enjoyed ourselves very much. Their extensive tea menu is quite refreshing: in a tea-culture that too often relies upon bizarre flavor additives to create variety, SilverTips carries a multiplicity of truely unique black (unflavored) teas. As this is the only kind of tea we drink, we are especially appreciative. I honestly don't remember being either impressed by or disappointed with the food (we always have afternoon tea), but the gift selections are varied and reasonable, especially for the area. We came home with several selections of loose tea and will definitely be returning again and again.

      Tearoom response:

So glad you enjoyed our tea selection! We will be changing some of our single estate black varietals this Fall so come back and see us again! And we will have a vast array of gifts for the holiday season.

My husband and I arrived at 4:25 p.m. on a Friday afternoon and were greeted very rudely. Waiting to be seated a Jamaican girl told us the kitchen was closed, but we could have tea and they were closing at 5:00. I was surprised how could a REAL Tearoom close during the traditional tea time. We sat down and reviewed the menu. I must say, I was impressed by the selection, but the staff was unfriendly. We requested scones and tea, and again I was told the kitchen was closed. How can anyone have tea without a scone! As for preparation of a scone, it doesn't take much! What really aggravates me, is that we were celebrating my finishing a college course that morning, and just arrived in Tarrytown after a 3-hour drive. When I left without having tea, I mentioned I was going to review them on teamap.com. As for returning I probably will eventually, but if this tearoom continues to employ staff like that, unfortunately it may not last.

I have been going to Silver Tips for a long time, and I always get great food, great service, and superb tea. Unlike other tea houses that may be flowery and feminine, at Silver Tips the focus is on the incredible variety of outstanding teas- making this a good place to take men. Unusual food selections (like Samosas) round out this unusal, ethnicly inclusive tea experience. BTW, If you have any problems during your visit, simply tell the owner and I assure you she will correct it.

Tea that they serve here needs to improve a lot. I could smell old tea & being a taster for 5 years now, it was very dissapointing for me. The tea room lacked the warmth in it. It was cold & the choice of color combination was yucky!!

      Tearoom response:

Dear Cate, I'm sorry you had such a disappointing experience with us. Although we realize we can't please everyone in decor, we carry only the freshest, most seasonal teas. I would like to hear more about your visit with us, particularly what tea you ordered. We would like to make it up to you. Please feel free to contact me directly at tea@silvertipstea.com. Anupa and her staff ROCK! I've been to many tea establishments in the New York area but Silvertea is by far the best. The selection of teas is wonderful, the food is always good, and the service is excellent. If there is one complaint, it's the decor of the place and the music they play, but tea, food, and staff are too good to make that really matter to me.
