Our shop has been designed to resemble an English tearoom from the 1850s, the time when tearooms began popping up throughout England, and 'teatime' became a national pastime for our British friends. In the wintertime you can warm yourself by our coal-burning fireplace in the foyer, and in nicer weather you can 'take tea' on our deck, overlooking the Tiber River. **************************************************

This is a wonderful tea room, but sadly, it is temporarily closed, due to damage caused by the severe flooding in Ellicott City. Call or check their website for updates.

Always a beautiful venue for tea. The holiday scone was lovely, although not really a scone. As noted in previous reviews, real clotted cream is not used, and is provided very sparingly along with small doses of jam and curd. We had to ask for more - it was barely enough for two, let alone four. I'd like to see more traditional sandwiches - not hummous. Egg, salmon, cheese, and cucumber/cream cheese sandwiches would be perfect. All in all, it is still a lovely day out for the girls.

I have visited this beautiful tearoom before and the full tea was wonderful. Although, I had a cream tea last week and could not believe the little quality and quantity of food served. The watermelon was sliced about 2 inches wide and so thin it fell apart when I picked up each slice, the pineapple on top of it was also thin but it also was rotten. The fruit was not even edible. The grapes were fine but the cheese was cut about as big as third of my pinky. The scones were hard short bread served with it was not tasty I had one bite of my scone. Then left everything. I was very disappointed and the their food cost was not over $1, 75. I will not return for tea again..

The service and decor was wonderful. The server explained how long to steep the tea and to take the tea bag out, which is helpful if someone doesn't regularly drink tea. The food came immediately and was served on a pretty tiered tray. The scone, was delicious however, the cream is not clotted cream, real clotted cream is thick and dense this was more like whipped cream. The oreo cake and shortbread cookie was delicious. I really enjoyed the fruit and cheese as a palette cleanser. My one wish is that there was more of a selection of sandwiches and savories. There were only two small sandwiches tomato and cucumber, a tiny savory strawberry tart, and small bite of salmon mixture on bread. I left hungry for more than just dessert. If dessert is mostly what you like then you will be satisfied. I think for the price the shoppers tea would have been better.

Overall excellent experience. It is my understanding that it is under new management and the new owners are doing a great job. The variety of teas were almost overwhelming but everyone in our party chose different teas so we were able to experience many. The food was excellent and while appearing to be a small amount at first, it definitely left you feeling stuffed. Loved the numerous varieties of foods so you weren't committing to just one type. We were fortunate to get the private sitting room for four which enhanced our experience. The historic building is lovely and well maintained and decorated perfectly to suit a tea room. The staff was attentive and helpful. The period costume on the server was a nice touch. Recommend highly and will definitely return.

I was very impressed with the charm of both the staff and the location in Historic Ellicott City. The food was excellent and was presented beautifully. We has a lovely time. I work for a local wedding magazine and I immediately recommended this tearoom to local brides for bridal showers.

I have been to Tea on the Tiber twice since it came under new management at the end of August. I took my sister, with our two 5year old daughters as a special treat for my daughter's birthday, and we had a lovely time! In fact we had such a great time my daughter and I went back the next weekend with my MIL and SIL! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, as is the entire staff. We were seated right away, and checked on numerous times throughout our visit, to make sure we had everything we needed, and to answer any questions we had about the historic treasure of a tea house! We had a tour of the whole tea house, and each room is elegant and special in it's own way. There is a whole menu of teas to choose from, everybody gets their own tea pot. An elegant three-tiered tray is served to the whole table, overflowing with yummy savory and sweet options. My daughter's favorite is the tomatoe sandwiches - which says a lot, since she doesn't eat vegetables by choice! I highly recommend Tea on the Tiber to all of my friends! It is a wonderful atmosphere for any occasion - an intimate outing, or a group gathering. Sitting right on main street old Ellicott City, it is quaint, elegant, and fun! A little treasure that must be experienced for yourself!

My BFF and I had Tea on July 13th Both of us was very disappointed from the time we entered the hostess area to be seated. The hostess was pushy and over bearing. They was music playing loud and was not music for a tea room. It was very depressing. We were the first people there on this day. The house was very charming. The food was very disappointing. The sones and cream was above average. The tea sandwiches was below average and I did not eat mine. We had a little tiny salad in a small sauce cup. All the deserts were bought and tasteless. None of the deserts were made on staff chef. The total quality was very disappointing. I felt that the hostess/ maybe the owner was out of her league in the Tea business. For the money spent I was expecting a lot more. I would not recommend this Tea Room to anyone and will not return. I am a big supporter of local business people but will not return. Try Gypsy Tea Room in Westminster. I give them an A.

I return every summer with my mom to start my summer vacation, and I'm never disappointed. The servers are lovely, and the food is always different and interesting. The added treat of strolling through Ellicot City shops makes for a great day.

Although I've here several times, I will not return. I arrived on Thursday for an 11:30 seating with my 78-year old mother and sister, both from out of town., at precisely 11:17. The hostess notified me that the scones were not ready. I said that that was fine, as I knew I was a few minutes early. The hostess then took her attention elsewhere. I pleasantly asked, can we be seated, and imagine my surprise when she said flatly 'no'. She noticed my surprise and indicated that the staff needed full access for set up. The tea room was totally empty and it was obvious to me that the tables were set,. I said well I guess we'll find somewhere else to go for 10 minutes. We made our way to an adjacent antique shop, where the shop owner overheard our conversation and graciously offered my mother a seat, which she gracioso doted. Althought the shop was small and congested, this did not seem to be an issue. I wish I could have given my $75 to this shop owner, but tea on Tiber took my credit card to make the reservation. I have done high tea for many years around the country and Europe and cannot recall a more unpleasant experience. Tea is as much about the atmosphere as the tea and food. This is the very first negative tea comment I have left for any tea room. There are too many excellent options out there to tolerate this treatment, thus I will never return and will encourage others seeking my advice on tea rooms to follow suit

Absolutely excellent - a tea room you rate all the others against! I've been here 3 times - with my mother for mother's day a few years ago, with my sister a few months ago, and with friend just last week. The food is fresh and decorative and the menu changes every month. You never leave hungry like with some other so called tea rooms. The service is excellent (the servers wear a black and white uniform and are very pleasant and helpful). I went to the Aylesbury tea room in Leesburg and also Cafe Anglais in the past month, and I can tell you that they didn't even compare in service, food, selection of tea, or atmosphere to Tea on the Tiber. The owners of Tea on the Tiber did a tour of tea rooms in England so that they would be prepared when they opened their tea room. Their efforts show every time I go there. This place is just spectacular!

I visited this tea room today for the first time and was concerned that I would not be able to partake of most of the food because I have Celiac's disease. I contacted the restaurant the day before and they were able to accomodate a Gluten-Free diet with their standard tea menu. The food was the best GF food I've had in a restaurant ever! The scones were moist and flavorful, and the breads they used for the finger sandwiches and snacks was very soft, fresh and not grainy at all like some GF breads can be. They had GF scones, cakes and pastries that were so good, I couldn't believe they were gluten-free. I'm not one to review restaurants often, but this one was above and beyond for anyone who needs or follows a GF diet.

We (a party of 8) visited the tea room to celebrate my mother's 79th birthday and had a wonderful time. We spent two hours there and never felt rushed. A few of us are not really tea drinkers and weren't sure what to order, and the hostess was very gracious and took a lot of time to explain about the various teas, made suggestions, and assured us that if we didn't like our tea we could trade it for another. The 'finger foods' were delicious and I enjoyed sampling the variety. Everything was very fresh. Some of us ordered the homemade butternut squash soup, not something I would normally go for, and it was delicious. But it was really about the experience, and the experience was everything we hoped it would be. Everyone had a really great time and we would certainly do it again.

The atmosphere here was great. We all loved the way it was set up and the privacy of the rooms. Only half of the people in our group thought their tea was good. I have been to a number of teas and they always offer more than one kind for each person, however, here you got one choice and a refill of hot water if you wanted more. Never had that happen before. One person in our group wanted a different tea because she really disliked what she got but the waitress did not return for a long time. The food was good and there was alot of it. Our waitress was not very attentive. The person who made the reservations miscounted and we were expected to pay for the extra food (not an unusual thing to expect) but the one making the reservations was not informed about this at the time of the reservations and did not know this was expected. All in all, I do not see myself returning to this tea room again, and could not recomment it to others. There are just too many really great places out there.

Our group had a wonderful time at Tea on the Tiber. The menu was excellent, most thought that the prosciutto wrapped asparagus was the best, others thought the tomato sandwich was the best. The White Chocolate Raspberry cake was the bomb. We will have to visit again.

My bridal shower was held here and it was excellent! There were so many teas to choose from and each tasted great. The food was delicious and we left extremely full! The tomato sandwich and the mango and cream cake was my favorite, but the menu changes monthly. The atmosphere was elegant and it was very nice to have our own room upstairs for the party. Our waitress was a little young and inexperienced but it seemed like she was new and she still did a good job, but that is honestly the only thing I could find a fault with, this place is amazing!

I am a total tea snob and have gone to several tea rooms in the area...specifically in D.C. Each time I went feeling frustrated and disatified with the experience. Either the food was bland or there were not enough teas to choose from or the atmostsphere was lacking. None of this was true for Tea on the Tiber. I first came to the tea room for a friend's birthday party and the food and tea were delicious. They served warm scones and their savories and sweets changed monthly. I really enjoyed the cordon blue sandwich and a delicious tomatoe sandwich. They provided two pages of loose leaf teas to choose from and allowed us to change teas after we finished our first pot. The atmostsphere was tastefully done and we had our own room to enjoy the tea and conversation. I then promised myself to bring my friends and family here and I have!. My sister came with me intially and she was so excited about it, she made me promise to bring my mother there too which occured the very next weekend. The staff was curtious and friendly and the hostess made you feel right at ease. It was elegant with out the formality. It is a must try!

I am a nutritionist and work a lot with people with dietary restrictions, so I am always scouting for allery-friendly places to eat out. This is a true find! In addition to a classy yet cozy ambiance, a full menu tea selection (hot and iced), and wonderfull people this tea room offers GLUTEN-FREE selections. And they are heavenly!!! The scones we were served were still hot, they were so fresh! Absolutely everything: the savories, the sweets, the grand dessert-German chocolate cake, everything was divine! I am judging objectively since I am not on a gluten restiction, just my companion was. I am not comparing GF treats to other GF options, I am just taking in the taste, the flavor, the texture, the appeal. Regardless of your dietary restrictions, Tea on the Tibor is a place to come to relax and enjoy great tea and great food. I will definitely be coming back and recommending it to others! Thank you!

In 2008 I had my daughter's baby shower at this establishment. I had 24 attendees and near the end of the time frame, the staff was very pushy for us to leave. I spent over $1,000 and it was very embarrassing to me as well as my guests. Last January, I decided to give this establishment another try...wrong....I had 5 friends this time and the customer service was terrible again...since that time I visited others who appreciate my business.

The location of Ellicott City was beautiful and the building was historic. The rooms were nice. The pots of tea were only half full and no explanation was given as to why. The food was average, nothing memorable. The serice is what was lacking. There were two young ladies and at first they forgot to describe the food. Then they rushed through it and never came back to see if anyone needed more tea or wanted to try another tea. At every other tea house that we have visited, the owner always stops by the table and that did not happen here. We like to try new places but unfortunately, this one did not make our list to visit again. Making just a few little changes would make this into a nicer establishment.

My husband and I decided to try Tea on the Tiber for our wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time. I was a bit worried due to other reviews but I can't say I had any problems. Some might argue that service was a little slow but keep in mind they have a vast tea collection to chose from and want to give you time to decide. Also unlike a restaurant there are sitting times. So everyone comes at once. The staff is very polite and willing to explain any tea questions you have. The house is three beautifully decorated floors although a bit narrow in some places. It is a bit dress fancy but not stuffy. A lovely skirt and top is just fine. The tea was wonderful and the food quite excellent. I must say I enjoyed the warm scones and fresh seasonal fruit the best. We will defiantly be back again.

As others have mentioned, this is a wonderful afternoon tea. I would also appreciate somewhat more savory than sweet, and would truly appreciate a selection of unflavoured black teas--Ceylon, Assam, Oolong, India and China. That to me is what I learned to expect in England. When I mentioned a tea-making term ('mash') from Northern England with which the proprietress was unfamiliar, she looked it up in a glossary she had from her classes IN England. Didn't find it, but did try!

I am deinitely pleased with my most recent trip to Tea on the Tiber. I didn't have to feel left out watching my tea compatriots chomp away on delicate breads and pastries while I crunched yet another carrot stick... Tea on the Tiber did a wonderful job accommodating my gluten free diet by providing a variety of gluten free goodies, including sandwich breads, muffins, and cakes. I was also impressed by the customer service and attention we received during our visit. The staff were all too happy to make sure our needs were met and that we were having a good experience. I would recommend this tea house!

What a wonderful experience 'Tea on the Tiber' was. My Mom and I had a wonderful time in a beautiful setting and enjoyed the amazing tea and food. Our Tea Club has frequented Tea on the Tiber for many years. It was unparalleled. We would go for every season for our meetings. Our Fall visit was lovely, the Winter visit was delightful, Spring was lacking and our visit two weekends ago for Summer did not reflect the tearoom we so fondly favored. We made mention of this to the proprietor. The breads were either too wet or too dry, food was not fresh, the scones were burned on the bottom, we were not welcomed warmly and the service is no longer attentive and inviting. We were bewildered. We ladies agreed we will not return. The Art of Tea is no longer being served. It has lost its charm.

This was my first time here and I thoroughly enjoy it. Our server was pleasant, informative, and friendly and took excellent care of us. She took time to answer all our questions about the place and the food without ignoring the other groups in the room. The food was delicious. It was hard to pick a favorite sandwich but I really liked the cucumber sandwich and the chicken salad. The fresh fruit at the end added a sweetness without being too heavy after the meal. This is definitely a return to place for me. I felt like I was visiting a good friend not a customer in a busy tea room. Thanks for a enjoyable visit.

After hearing many glowing reviews of Tea on the Tiber I finally had the opportunity to take tea there. The friendly hostess welcomed us at the door and seated my friend and I on the first floor. The Victorian decor is lovely. After reviewing the tea menu we selected 2 different teas. Each tea was prepared with a tea bag. At no time did our server check on our tea's temperature or offer to bring a hot pot. This was disappointing. Ice tea was available upon request. Our sweets and savorys were presented on a 3 tiered server: A scone, 2 bites of cheese and some fresh fruit for each of us, 3 or 4 finger sandwiches and lastly dessert. The food presentation was lovely. The fresh fruit and cheese with the scones was a pleasant change. We were served approx. 1 Tablespoon of clotted cream, a Tbls of lemon curd and a Tbls of mixed berry jam for the 2 of us. We requested a refill of each and we were too embarrassed to request more. THe finger sandwiches were adequate: a roast beef, the traditional cucumber, and a tomato. Nothing to get excited about ... but they looked pretty. A large slice of cake, a shortbread cookie dipped in chocolate and an unidentifiable tartlet were offered for dessert. I would have preferred less sweets and larger servings of the other items. Visitng this teahouse was a pleasant experience however it did not live up to my expectations. The ambiance was lovely and plesant. THe food presentation was pretty and inviting. Service and attention to our needs wss lacking. I will think twice before making the 1 1/2 hr drive to EllicottCity just to take tea on the Tiber however I may return.

We received a warm welcome as we entered the establishment. Our hostess escorted us to our table and we were promptly given our tea menu. Within five minutes our teapots were placed on the table and minutes later we enjoyed our tea. The savories and desserts were presented well. One Challenge: I personally would like to have had real linens. There was no tablecloth on the table and there were paper napkins. I was puzzled as to why such a nice setting would not warrant real linens. This was my guests first tea.

I am the mom who took her daughter to Tea on the Tiber for her birthday. What a wonderful time we had, from the minute we walked in the door until the time came to leave. I read the reviews that were posted and the vast majority had only good things to say. I read the review from Charlene and to be honest, I think it was some kind of grudge review and not honest in any way. The service was excellent, the hostess was charming, the waitress as nice as she could be and the food was outstanding. She explained all of the teas and I got raspberry ice tea which was delicious. She would check up on us, but never to the point of being annoying. My daughter found the big bow on her chair and the candle in her cake so nice. We especially loved the decor. Victorian is so charming and just for a little while you could forget all the cares of the world and pretend you were somehow sent back in time. Would we go back again? We sure would.

My mom took me to lunch today at Tea on the Tiber to celebrate my birthday today. The hostess was charming and told made sure to wish me a Happy birthday as she lead my mother and me to our table. She spend a few minutes explaining the menu to us and the very large selection of teas. After she left my mother and I were able to admire the beauty of the room we were in and I even took a few minutes to peek into the other two rooms that shared the second floor with us. Each room was picture perfect, but also very inviting. Our waitress arrived shortly and was just as friendly as could be. She returned in no time with our teas, mine was the Latte de Chai which they were happy to ice for me. it was scrumptous! The food arrived soon after with the food caddy and I was so charmed to see a birthday candle in a slice of cake for me! Everything was so yummy, but it was the scones that were my favorite. I could eat those with the lemon curd all day. Although I was so full by the time I reached the dessert course, I couldn't bear the thought of not eating them. I'm glad i managed because the Cherry Crumble was wonderful. Afternoon tea at Tea on The Tiber was such a wonderful and relaxing way to celebrate my birthday. I can't wait to return the favor and take someone I love to enjoy the experience too!

My friend Connie made our reservation. I was with a large party of ladies a few Saturdays ago. My second time at this tea room was disappointing, just like my first. I believe that this place is number four out of MD because the good local tea rooms were forced to close their doors due to the economy. If you're really interested in the art of tea and real cuisine (not prepackaged foods), don't go here. One of the past waitstaff told me they keep their sandwiches in Tupperware containers for days. Nothing is baked on premises. Even the scones are frozen. Stay home and grab some recipes for a real English tea. You'll enjoy the preparation, and will save money to boot.

      Tearoom response:

Dear Charlene,<BR> <BR> We are sad that you were disapointed with your experience. We strive to provide an authentic and enjoyable Afternoon Tea to our patrons and I feel that we achieve that with the vast majority of our customers. <BR> <BR> I would like to point out that your facts are incorrect. We prepare our foods fresh daily and our scones are also baked in our kitchen daily. We endeavor to provide the best and freshest ingredients for our savories and scones.<BR> <BR> We have been consistently ranked in the top 5% of tearooms in Maryland since we opened years ago. I believe we have proven we are an excellent tearoom. <BR> <BR> If you were unhappy with your time with us I wish you would have expressed it to either the manager or owner at the time instead of airing incorrect information in a public forum.<BR> <BR> Thank you for your feedback. <BR> With respect,<BR> Jennifer

Today, my friends and I visited tea on the Tiber and had a great afternoon. The food was good and the tea was excellent. I had the Silver Rain and Ginger Peach and loved it. The only complaint I think anyone had was that the napkins were paper. It was great atmosphere and we were greeted by a lovely lady not sure if she was the owner/manager etc. but she did say that they were interior designers (they can decorate my home anytime!!). I felt the items they sell (all tea related) were tastefully dispersed amongst the rooms as if they were decor. The tearoom is definitely their main focus. I will definitely be back again!

Tea on the Tiber In a quaint little tea house, By the side of a rocky stream, One can sit by the embers And have scones with English cream. The rustic train's rumble, Down the street by the way, Brings thoughts quite nostalgic, To the far side of yesterday! China painted in pink roses, Doilies with white lace, Tea pots and lemon curd, All over the place! Ladies perfect in their aprons, Compliment an atmosphere of ease, And the tiered tray of delicacies, Is apt always to please! Upstairs in the library, Or downstairs in the parlor, Maybe in the sunroom Or on to deck near the water, No matter the season Or the day one might call, The experience is lasting, For one and for all! So walk near the granite, And watch the Tiber trickle by, 'Neath a little stone foot bridge, Then you soon will see why, Tea on the Tiber Is as picturesque as can be, It adds flavor to an afternoon, To sit there for tea! Written especially for 'Tea on the Tiber' By Barbara Pederson December 2009

What a wonderful Holiday Tradition again this year!!! My friends and I have returned to Tea on the Tiber for 5 years during the holiday and throughout the year as well. But there is something magical during the holiday especially. The tier of delicacies, the tea, the staff and ambience can not be matched. Thank you Tea on the Tiber for offering such a lovely place to take tea and creating memories for us all! Happy Holidays!

It was our first time visting Tea on the Tiber. We found the decor to be a very lovely Victorian. The wait staff to be exceptional! The food was good but we were looking for more homeade bread for the sandwiches. The tea was exceptional. We were wanting to purchase more in the tea shop. However that wasn't available. Overall, we absolutley enjoyed the one stop service of food, as we were deep in conversation the whole time. There were no interuptions.

I have been here only once and I have to say that it was not my favorite tearoom. I have definitely been to better ones. The building where it is located is beautiful but the atmosphere is just TOO Victorian. Everything dripped Victorian. I adore Victorian things, but this was way too much. I don't recall what I had to eat, which tells you of the average taste.

My visits to the Tea Room have always been the most fun, pleasurable experiences. My family and I go about once a month. The food is so satisfying. I cannot express how happy I am with the change of clotted cream. It fits perfectly to my American sweet tooth and I absolutely love it. The service was excellent. I did not feel rushed; they were just trying to be helpful. Speaking of service, the hostess was absolutely the sweetest. The second I talked to her on the phone, I felt that my needs were catered too. I was worried at first because I am a strict vegetarian; they substituted sandwiches. The design of the tea room amazed me. We were welcomed to take a tour of the place, and the rooms are so beautiful. From the intricate design of the plates, to the glimmering chandelier in the parlor, we felt as if we were on a get-away. As for fishing out an infuser bag in the tea pot, I never had this issue, since I am careful not to let it fall in. I don’t see how else a pot of tea could be infused other than using an infuser bag. We most look forward to the ever changing menu, which many restaurants do not do. Whenever I visit, it is packed like every other place I go to. So, of course, I expected there would be other people talking. But it was not in any way cramped. As for offering seconds for free... I have never been to any restaurant ( no matter how expensive) which offered seconds for free. That’s just funny. I recommend that you try this place for yourself. I think the entire experience was lovely. And I am not alone, due to the many good comments.

I returned to Tea on the Tiber today and enjoyed their September menu. It changes monthly. It was, again, a wonderful and delightful time. My friends and I have a standing reservation monthly. The food is always delicious, the tea selection complements the food no matter your choice, the scones are beyond description, each room, no matter where you are seated is beautifully decorated and all staff - from the moment you are greeted by the hostess to the server in her adorable pinafore apron makes you feel welcomed and at home. I hope you enjoy yourself as much as we always do.

This weekend was probably my fourth visit to Tea on the Tiber in as many years. Previously, it has been one of the highlights of the summer, but it was disappointing this time, and, now that the town itself has lost many of its nicer shops and attractions, probably as a result of the economy, we are unlikely to return. The sandwiches were good, but for the scones to be accompanied by a condiment of powdered sugar mixed with water was appalling, even more so when it was described as 'our version' of clotted cream. We were advised that American guests complained about the real thing, so this was substituted. It would be infinitely better to serve butter or whipped cream! The desserts were equally poor - a chunk of mediocre chocolate cake, shortbread with toffee chunks and a slice of a seed loaf - and the boringly monotone presentation failed to excite the eye or the palate. I am sorry to see a place with so much potential being allowed to deteriorate.

      Tearoom response:

Dear Rosamund, <BR> It was a pleasure speaking with you on the phone after reading your review. We welcome not only favorable reviews, but any suggestions our guests may offer. <BR> <BR> As you know, we originally opened our tearoom serving authentic English clotted cream. We tried to take heed to those who suggested they did not care for its taste-thus making our own. However, we believe your thoughtful insight warrants staying true to our original concept. We will, once again, serve authentic English clotted cream. Thank you for your constructive criticism. <BR> <BR> I religiously try to speak to our guests as they depart. I enjoy receiving feedback with great enthusiasm. I enjoyed, as well, speaking to the other guests in your party. I am pleased your guests were complimentary borrowing their desire for us to serve English clotted cream again. Unfortunately, you had a few more concerns. Although your comments were taken very seriously, I would like to thank you for your compliments on our tea sandwiches when we spoke. I believe your description regarding our signature tomato sandwich was 'brilliant.' Thank you. <BR> <BR> I do find that teamap.com serves as a voice for only a select few and is not representative of our many guests on a weekly basis. <BR> <BR> Again, I thank you for your comments that served as a catalyst for change. We do hope to see you again. As mentioned on the phone, please ask for me when placing your reservation so I may serve you well. <BR> <BR> Until next time, we will continue to serve our loyal guests, welcome new and relish in their heartfelt compliments that we receive daily. <BR> <BR> In gratitude, <BR> <BR> Terry Parkinson<BR> Tearoom Manager

In March are Tea Ladies Group had our monthly outing and picked Tea on the Tiber. We made reservation for afternoon tea. Our party was in the library t and the food was excellent. Our servicer was a little shy but very polite and was always attentive to the groups needs. Our Tea Ladies Group will definitely revisit and have posted pictures of our time on Tea on the Tiber.

I have made several trips to this tearoom with different groups of friends since it opened. We have always enjoyed ourselves and have never felt the need to rush or to leave before we are ready. I will say that I agree the portions and the tea selection have been reduced recently. Because of our group size we are usually in an upstairs room and find the atmosphere comfortable for visiting and have at times included other tables in our conversation. It is not the best tearoom I've visited, but I always enjoy my visits. The price is irrelevant when the company is good.

This tearoom is delightful in every way. I go often. Not every customer will have the same perception. That is just human nature. It is sad to me that those who offer unwarranted negative reviews are the ones that may be heard the most. My bridal shower was held here. All guests were pleased. Anything can be picked apart if you have that type of personality to begin with. Maybe Susan B. and the others should just stay home and fix a pot of tea for themselves.

Too expensive for the quality of food and service. The food was so-so, and not as fresh as we would have hoped. The tomato sandwich was mushy and wet and tasted like it had been refrigerated for a while. There is another business in this tearoom. It is clear to patrons that this is the true focus. Sorry to say that I'm disappointed.

I had tea with a group of 10 Red Hat ladies last Saturday as a celebration of a recent wedding! We were served in a sunny and bright room. Everything was excellent from Donna who greeted us to our tea maid who delivered excellent service! The tea fare was delicious and was nicely displayed on the 3 tiered servers. The tea was served promptly and we chose our own tea from a nice assortment! All was quite lovely. I am disturbed by a prior review which paints a poor picture of this lovely tearoom in fantastic Ellicott City! This lady surely was having her own bad day or her expectations are ridiculous. Tea on the Tiber is consistently a delight, in my book!

Having been to this tea room several times I am disappointed to see the petty reviews. I think some people are mistaking a traditional 'tea' for lunch at Ruby Tuesdays. A tea room is not a place to go for 'lunch.' Although I do always leave full, I go to chat with friends, linger over tea, try some yummy treats, and to have a relaxing experience. That is always achieved. I find when the girls clear the table or ask if I need anything, that they are being attentive not pushy. I also don't expect to sit there for 4 hours which may be what some people want. There are two seatings usually, so that isn't even a realistic expectation. A couple of hours is lovely to spend there. It really seems like the people who work there enjoy their jobs. If ever I had a question I spoke to a manager and it was resolved or answered. It sounds like many of the complainers never addressed it with anyone and for that, shame on them. I also found it amusing that people think family or friends write on this site. This tea room has been there for many years, wonderful guests are what keeps them there and obviously in business. I barely got a reservation for my holiday party because they are booked. Anyone who is interested should try it for themselves. The menu is different every month and there is a large selection of teas to chose from. I particularly love the china they use, which is coincidentally the pattern that is sold at the Hillwood Museum. I look forward to my next visit and already know I'll be enjoying some hot cinnamon spice tea!

We almost didn't try Tea On The Tiber because of the poor rating the previous person placed on the website. I'm so glad that I ignored her review. This was my second time taking 'tea' at this tea room. It feels like they want to get you in, get you out. There is nothing customizable (in terms of ordering more food, etc.) or 'boutique' about this place - everything is completely unremarkable or poor in every way. Things look shabby and the china is worn and cracked. The service was terrible for the 20 percent tip they demand you pay (its included). The tea sandwiches are made from cheap, thick sandwich bread. There are better B-more tea rooms than the hefty price tag and inhospitable atmosphere!

My girlfriends and I have tea frequently and love to travel to find different tea rooms. On my very first visit to this tea room we had a pleasant experience. Back in Spring 2007, I decided to invite my friends to Tea on the Tiber to ask them to be my bridesmaids. On this particular occasion the service and attitude by both the server and manager were lacking. We felt rushed througout the entire time and could not enjoy our meal. The server asked us about every 15mins if we were done. You could feel it in the air, as if they wanted to scream 'hurry up and be done!.' Ignoring my better judgement, I visited yet again with my aunt and grandma (their first tea experience) and recieved the same treatment. I am in the process on planning another tea for our 'girls time' and I would NOT choose this tea room to visit again. There are comparable tea rooms in the area that do not come with the uncomfortable atmosphere.

My friend and I were at this tea room over the weekend. We had a nice experience despite the horrible weather. I do wish the A/C had been on to take the humidity out of the air in the room we were in (upstairs). Due to the heat we had iced tea which was lovely and tasted nice. It was not the kind of day to have hot tea for sure, so I cannot speak for the 'artistry' of the tea prep. But, if what the other reviews say is correct then I think I probably would have been disappointed to have to fish a tea bag out of a tea pot with a spoon or fork. In all the tearooms I've visited this has never been the case. Additionally, something I noticed and was disappointed about (and not just with this tea room but with others in the Baltimore area) ia that seconds were not offered on any of the items during tea (i.e sandwiches, fruit, dessert items etc) I've been to many many tea rooms all over (including London) which offer afternoon tea and only a few in the Baltimore area do it 'correctly' by allowing unlimited amounts of food and tea. I do have to say that nearly all allow a few pots of tea but most remove the tiered tray once you are done eating without asking if you want more. Very strange as my understanding of Afternoon tea is that food and tea are unlimited. This is especially unsettling when you are paying between $18 and $25 for what amounts to a scone, 3 or 4 small sandwiches, a few pieces of fruit, cheese and some tiny desserts. I am not sure I understand how it is possible to charge folks between $18-$25 and not offer seconds on anything. This is not just a complaint I have about this tea room but of several tea rooms in the Baltimore area. Overall the experience was nice and I will probably bring my sister here at some point (hopefully on a nicer day than my friend and I got) but I can tell you she will be as disappointed as I am that no seconds will be offered for the price.

I have enjoyed the Afternoon Tea here quite a few times and have never been disappointed. The choice of loose teas is large enough to please all tastes (I'm a no-frills black tea person, my friend Patti is more adventurous). The good sized cranberry scone was just the way I prefer it...NOT like a cookie! I absolutely love the addition of cheese and fruit too. I wish more tearooms did this. The tea sandwiches: an excellent cucumber and dill on white bread with a slice of hard boiled egg that made it interesting, a delicious curried chicken salad on a butter croissant, a tomato sandwich (Patti happily gobbled mine since I'm not fond of tomatoes), and a spiral sandwich that was tasty but I can't remember what it was. The sweet course is always good: a moist and very pretty yellow cake with strawberry and cream, ambrosia in a chocolate cup, and a butter cookie. All this with a large pot of tea each...we were very full, and very satisfied. Visiting tearooms is our hobby, and we have been to many. This one is always on our list. Service is pleasant, the portion size and cost is comparable to others in the area (tax and an 18% tip were included). What's not to like?

I had the pleasurable experience of afternoon tea at this establishment today and I was happily surprised. I really wasn't looking forward to it given some of the negative reviews, but I am pleased to say this is one of the best teas I have been to ever. The hostess was friendly and seated us immediately. The tea choices were limited but seemed well rounded and I really liked my jasmine. I did ask that my tea leaves be taken away and the waitress did take them but she said they leave them in case we want a second round of the tea since the leaves are stong they can be brewed a second time. I can't imagine finishing one pot of tea let alone two but the answer made sense. The food was beautifully presented and diverse. I'm used to standard tea fare elsewhere but the sandwiches here were larger than I've had elsewhere and really tasty. The cranberry scone was warm and flaky. I don't know if they make them there or not but I really don't care since it was so good. I would have liked a bit more of the cheese and the fruit seemed more like a garnish than part of the meal. The desserts were yummy too. I was full when I got to the desserts but I managed to eat them all anyways. The server was pleasant and the manager checked to make sure everything was to our liking. Everyone seemed very nice, not overbearing and I was able to relax and enjoy myself. Overall, this was probably one of the best tearooms I've visited. I'm looking forward to going again.

I was going to host my best friend’s bridal shower here due to several good reviews I have heard about the tea room. But after reading the “Tearoom Responses” to other perfectly innocuous reviews I refuse to ever patronize this establishment again. Went with my girlfriends (one of them had been here previously) last week. So few teas to choose from compared to other area tea rooms. Tea sandwiches were made with normal thick white sandwich bread - nothing gourmet or special here. Things look dingy and overused from the china to the carpet. Service was only fair - don't expect the waitress to want to talk to you or give you special, preferential treatment other than giving you a teapot and setting down your tea tray. Save your money and time. This place (tea room? decorating shop? - it's unclear) is not worth the half tank of gas per person. I'm not planning on coming back.

I agree with other reviewers that this tea room was lacking. Could the high opinions and differing experiences really be accurate (friends of owners/family members writing in to boost reviews, etc)? When I went two weeks ago and had the afternoon tea, the tea menu selections were scant compared to other area tea rooms. I had to brew my own pot of tea at the table. No real tea room does this to their patrons. it's uncouth as the server did not take away the sopping wet tea leaves but left them on the table. the sandwiches were lackluster and the scones were not homemade. i was very disappointed at the high price, no matter if it included tax or tip. the included tip is automatically 20 percent. the service was so so and did not merit such a high percentage. the tip should be left up to the discretion of the patron, period. i am sorry to report that i will not be coming back.

I have been to this tea room several times and it is generally one of my favorites in the area. The cost of the afternoon tea includes tax and tip, which is nice. My positive rating is based on my multiple experiences at this tea house, but I do have to say that the last time we visited (about two weeks ago) I did not think it was a good as usual. We were seated upstairs at an unstable table. Every time one of us leaned on the table, it shifted in our direction. In addition, the food selection was not as good as I remembered it being on past visits. The ginger scone was large and tasty, but ginger is a very strong spice that not everyone likes (including one of our guests) so I was surprised it was the only option offered. The cheese was wonderful, as were the sandwiches, especially the tomato. The 'sweets' selection at our last visit, left a lot to be desired, and that's usually my favorite part. We were given three sweets: glazed almonds in a chocolate cup, a soft butter cookie, and a berry cobbler over crushed pretzels. I didn't particularly care for any of those, so I definitely left disappointed. Although my last visit left a bit to be desired, I gave the food a 'good' rating because all of my previous visits have left me feeling like I had a wonderful tea/dining experience. I just hope my last visit was a fluke and does not turn into the norm. 'T,' the hostess, by the way, is fabulous!

We recently visited this tea house and had such high hopes. I was just going to comment on my experience when I saw the rude remarks of tea on the tiber's manager in response to a patron's concerns (see review below 4/05/08). How unprofessional. We were served scant portions, (as other patrons have noted), and over-microwaved scones. The china we were served with was cracked and the pattern was very faded and dingy. The service was fair. All in all, Tea on the tiber is not worth the money. it's all frills with little substance. I am very sorry to report a negative response, but a paying customer has a right to give truthful feedback.

three of us ladies visited the tea room yesterday. what a disappointment compared to other teas we've been to. the food was very, very skimpy (just as other reviewers said). you get one very small scone with servings of lemon curd, clotted cream that is enough to cover one person's small scone. oh, these toppings are 'unlimited' (unlike the actual tea food offerings as in other teas), but who wants to keep calling the server back every time for each person to have enough to spread on their scone? that was the extent of the first 'course'. the second course consisted of one inch-long wrap with a sliver of ham, a round tomatoe sandwhich the size of a half dollar, a tiny tart, and an opened faced cucumber sandwhich. the next course was one strawberry with chocolate coating only on the bottom, a stale-tasting cookie and a tiny 'trifle' in a plastic-like cup that was still frozen in the middle. as for the service re the still-frozen trifle, we were told we were supposed to 'let it thaw' and at this point we were there for over an hour. worse, was when we told the hostess/manager instead of apologizing we were given a lecture how we have to understand something about the kitchen's temperature and besides, we came early anyway. (ten minutes at the most). worst 'tea' any of us have ever been to.

I came for tea with my girl friend and our husbands. We had a pretty good time. Since we are british and tea critics we can honestly say that it's not one of 'the best' we have been to. The portions were very very small. We ended up spending a little over 100 $ for the four of us and all left there starving, going to a steakhouse down the street! Tea on the Tiber counts everything they serve you to make sure you only get 1 of the 4-5 items served (food-wise). We only got 1 scone each, 1 tiny sandwhich wrap each, 1 chocolate covered strawberry each and 1 tiny trifle each. My thoughts for a better service would be to offer a little more for your buck! The food was fresh so I will give you that and the service was friendly. Just spend a little less time thinking about decorating and interior design and a little more time on the quanity of the food you serve ;). Happy planning Tea on the Tiber and I hope this helps the review readers! Enjoy your time there readers and have fun just don't go there hungry!

As I visited this tea room a few weeks ago, I sat in the 'parlor'. Servers kept going in and out of this room and the kitchen door kept swinging open and closed. I agree with the previous reviews saying that this place does not give you a true tea experience. You DO have to brew your own tea. You DO have to fish out the teabag from the pot yourself (the wet tea leaves were unappetizing to look at, sitting there on that dish next to my food). I've never had to do that at another tea room before. The decor is very Victorian and frilly, and the building itself is nice, but it was a disappointing experience for the high price.

There is a larger upstairs area that has many windows, filling the room with beautiful sunshine. A new deck is available for warmer days. I have never been disappointed with the food or service. As an English lady, living in Maryland, this particular tearoom was very small, catering to 12 patrons at a time. The food was sub-standard, small scones were dry and had a peculiar taste. The service was sub=standard and I personally would not go back myself, let alone take friends.

This is a very poor 'tea room'. When I visited last month with my sister-in-law from London, we were only offered to choose ONE tea, served in the most sloppy and unappetizing manner I have ever seen - I was given a cracked pot with a tea bag in it and then directed by my server to remove the bag and place it on a dish above my fork. Taking tea NEVER should include having your guests fish out a large, wet, open tea bag and leaving it on the table in full view. What 'British' tea room serves tea that hasn't even been properly steeped? This is NOT a restaurant or even a proper tea room - this is a small-time operation in a decorating business. People who truly know quality food will agree. Tea connoisseurs beware!

      Tearoom response:

We usually appreciate the feedback we receive from our guests. We value constructive criticism and utilize it as a tool and resource to improve on what we, and many of our loyal patrons, believe is already a delightful Afternoon Tea experience. However, there becomes a point where a line is crossed and the feedback given is not only untrue but also mean, hurtful and nasty. Perhaps the issue lies with the writer of this review and not with our establishment as we have had the pleasure of serving nearly 9,500 patrons in 2007.

I recently visited Tea on the Tiber for the first time. The price was a bit expensive for the minimal amount of food that you got. I was also disappointed that, when I made the reservation, I wasn't told about the different rooms and asked what my preference would be. We were put in the main dining room and the distraction of the wait staff going in and out of the kitchen made it hard to have a good conversation. When we later went upstairs to see what else was offered, I realized how wonderful the sun room was and wished we had the option to be there. The wait staff did a good job and our server was very nice. We were allowed to linger over our tea and I appreciated that very much. My friend, having never been to a tea, was very impressed by everything. The decor was delightful but price tags on everything was a little offputting to me.

Tea on the Tiber is one of the finest tearooms I have visited over my many years of enjoying afternoon tea. As a frequent visitor to London and the surrounds, Tea on the Tiber rates among the best. Perhaps Ms. Sarkazzey and Ms. Langley should visit English tearooms before they comment on something which they obviously have little knowledge of, and perhaps they should continue to have sweet tea at MacDonalds.

I love this tearoom. I have been here several times and have had fun bringing different groups of friends for the unique experience of Afternoon Tea. I recently hosted a baby shower for my sister here and the staff was wonderful to us; they really made the day even more special. The food, as always, was terrific. The lemon scones were a hit with everyone. I've never had a problem with the tea selection like someone else wrote. My teas have been great and fresh. The green tea tropical is very fruity and delicious. I will keep bringing friends here and I having been dropping hints to my sister that I want my baby shower here!!! (You better read this Heather:)). Thanks Tea on the Tiber for always making our afternoons special!

I came in with a friend for tea a few weeks ago on Saturday. (She had made the reservation). I have been to other tea rooms in the area, and this one seemed lacking and too expensive for the quality of food that was served. Everything tasted store bought rather than home made? This tea room is not British as the website claims.

Very disappointing. The choices for the tea were very limited, no substitutions for inappropriate foods (allergies), and weren't close to the traditional English tea advertised in any case. There was a large number of teas available but apparently they don't turn over very quickly as they were stale and flavorless. A lot of window-dressing with little substance and a steep price tag on top. There are better places in Ellicott City.

Had a beautiful full tea at noon. The scones were warm and fresh. The sandwiches tasty and elegant. The sweets delicious! Staff was attentive but not pushy. Came in for tea over weekend on deck. Shopper's tea scones are microwaved and the first bite was hard, dry and crumbly. If such is case, expects full tea to have same lack of quality. Place seemed short staffed. No idea why this tea room received top 5 percent as listed. Horrible experience, will not come back.

Made reservations for party of 10 five months in advance. Advised that one of the attendees had severe not allergy. Was told no problem the chef's child had the same problem. One week before date received a call saying they could not accommodate the one person. Scrambled to bring in tea from another establishment for the one person. Nightmare!

      Tearoom response:

The owners and I were very concerned after reading about your experience. My son does have a severe nut allergy and I understand the concerns regarding food allergies are to be taken with utmost seriousness. I do ask people about the specifics of the allergy so that we can do our best to accomodate their requests. My only stipulation when speaking to someone (specifically about a nut allergy) is that while we can provide a nut free Afternoon Tea I cannot promise that there is not a chance of cross contamination if there are nut items on the menu. Also, if we have utitlized our local bakery or chocolate shop for a special dessert that month then I cannot promise that they do not use nut free products. My compromise with food allergies in these situations is that we will have a substitution available. I even go so far as to ask if the person with the allergy needs to have their food served on a separate platter to avoid touching other foods that may contain nuts. I was dismayed to hear that you had this experience when I go out of my way to work with the person with the allergies and come up with a workable solution. We put a tremendous amount of effort into our tearoom to make it stand out among the best and this situation is something I feel is unacceptable. I would like to have the opportunity to contact the person who wrote this review so that I may try to determine who you spoke to after the inital contact we had where I assured you we can work with the nut allergy. This merits immediate attention and follow up. I ask that you email me at teaonthetiber@aol.com to provide me with your contact information or call the tearoom @ 410 480 8000 and ask to leave a message for the General Manager (not the Tearoom Manager) with your information. My sincerest apologies to you for this event. I would like to assure other guests that this situation WILL NOT occur again. My thanks to this reviewer for bringing this to our attention.

I have been to several tea rooms in the area including Reynolds, Finnerteas, and Petticoat. I have to say this was my least favorite. While the location was great and the decor very cosy, other aspects of the experience were average. I went with 3 other friends a few weeks ago, 2 of whom were British, and very knowledgeable about tea. We went for the 3pm sitting and around 4:15 felt pressured by our server to finish and leave. After she came several times to check to see if we had paid the check, I asked her what time they close (they appeared to be getting ready to close around 4:30). Generally when I've gone to tea in the past, part of the fun is the leisurely pace. They shouldn't have a 3pm seating if they want people to leave by 4/4:30. I found the tea selection to be diappointing, as most of the teas were black, or decaf. There were only two white teas and no red teas on the menu. The teapots used for service were very good and brewed very good pots of tea. The food was OK, and the scones were delicious, but the sandwiches were very unimaginative and lacking. We were also perplexed that all four of our food was served on one platter. The plate was not large enough for the table as we could not all reach it from our seats and we were only given one serving utensil. Would have been better to serve on two plates. I may go back in the future, but when planning a tea outing for 10 friends for tomorrow I chose Petticoat instead, eventhough I live in Ellicott City. .

This was my first time visiting your tearoom and it will definitely not be my last! We had a wonderful time on our girls afternoon out - 2 moms, 2 daughters(13 years old) and 2 of their favorite teachers. The lemon scones were delicious. My daughter would have been pleased to just have those to eat! My only complaint was that the server indicated that she would come back to refill our teapots but never did and we couldn't pin her down to get her to do it - we didn't try very hard though. Also, in her defense, it was a very busy day with the warm spring-like weather. We are definitely planning on a return trip! Thank you so much for a beautiful afternoon!

I recently had a traditional afternoon tea for the first time, and I fear that going to Tea on the Tiber was a mistake! I am worried that Tea on the Tiber has raised my expectations so high that, if I take tea somewhere else, I'll be disappointed! I played it safe and chose the apricot black tea, which was supposed to be a favorite. Fantastic. The food presentation was just right, the surroundings are beautiful. Our server was a real sweetheart too--she had a very warm personality and a nice sense of humor, which given how traditional the place feels, was a pleasant surprise. Of course, she performed her job very well. I would describe the atmosphere as traditional yet comfortable--it felt like a very special place, and I didn't want to leave! Perhaps most importantly, the afternoon I spent with my aunt, cousins, and older sister at Tea on the Tiber has really turned me on to tea (after all, I found my way to teamap.com) and I look forward to visiting tearooms before I finish college in New York City. When I come home, I look forward to visiting Tea on the Tiber again! Thank you so much for a great first-tea experience.

I was thrilled with this tearoom. The tea selection was extensive and the food was divine. My favorite part was the savories (tea sandwiches). They were not only delicious but they were more than just the little bites that I have gotten elsewhere. The scones that day were a butter pecan and they were served with a plum preserve & REAL clotted cream that they import from England. Our server was busy but made us feel like we were her only priority. I also got to try 2 flavors of tea since I couldn't decide which one I wanted so the waitress brought me both! This tearoom is definitely worth a second (or third) visit. Thanks for giving me & my guests a memorable afternoon.

Elegance. Historicity. Decadence. These three words swiftly come to mind when I think of my experience at Tea on the Tiber. I visited this pampering tearoom with my friend at the beginning of September, and I was struck by the lavish interior details to include cut glass chandliers, two roaring fireplaces, and sumputous period wallpaper. The food matched this care and attention to detail with freshly made and filling treats of a copious variety, beautifully arranged. There were many of varieties of teas to choose from, and the teas were of the finest whole leaf variety. (I always check!) Our server was dressed as a period parlor maid complete with ruffled pinafore. Although she was in training, she was courteous, prompt, and affable, as was the entire staff. The hostess was charming, and the busy manager even made time to personally check on our table. This is truly the perfect venue for relaxation. I have been to several tea rooms in the tri-state area as well as at the Pierre in NYC -- and found this tea room a true value for its holistic artistry, warm service, and satisfying delights for the palate!

From the moment you walk in the door, you know they will try to cater to your every whim. The rooms in which to take tea are simply beautiful. It's relatively quiet and I felt like I had a space all to myself. The food was incredibly filling and varied. I couldn't wait to sample everything! You will definitely never leave hungry after having lunch here. My servers each time have been nothing but smiles and they're always extremely polite. Please offer no sugar added deserts to go along w/the teas. There is really not much on your menu for folks who have dietary restrictions.Thx

      Tearoom response:

Thank you for your suggestion. We do try to take food concerns into account when preparing our menu. We strive to help those who do have food allergies or similar difficulty with a food. We have tried, in the past, to keep sugar free desserts available to our guests. However we found that the overwhelming majority of our customers preferred the desserts on our monthly menu. As a result we were throwing out more sugar free dessets than we ever served. If you have a dietary restriction we suggest speaking with our menu developer when you make your reservation to see if we might be able to work with you. Thank you for your comments.

My sister, daughter and I visited this tea room on Sunday. The three of us were very disappointed. The service was very poor. The food was unimaginative and not filling. Would not recommend.

      Tearoom response:

We were very concerned when reading this review. Luckily we keep our reservation sheets. We contacted all of our customers from the date of this person's supposed visit. To begin with, we have no record of anyone with your name being a guest in our tearoom. In addition, we were able to contact everyone who had been a guest on this date and everyone assured us they had a 'delightful', 'wonderful', and 'relaxing' afternoon to name a few of the words used to describe their experiences. There was one party we were unable to contact but that party had left their server a very large additional gratuity. If this party was disappointed then I cannot imagine they would have left such a sum in appreciation. I do not understand why someone would post such a malicious review of a place they obviously have not visited. I certainly do not think our July menu with balsamic ham tea sandwich, striped salad tea sandwich, gorgonzola grape tea tart, or our ever popular Tiber's tomato tea sandwich or our chocolate layer cake, white chocolate raspberry creme brulee bar, lemon shortbread cookie, or peanut butter mousse cup are either unimaginative or unfilling. We are contacting the administrators of teamap to register a concern that people can post unfounded and potentially libelous reviews without retribution.

The atmosphere was lovely, but the service was very slow; our waitress took forever even to start taking our order. Fortunately I like my tea very strong so I didn't mind waiting for our food; we'd ordered the savory tea. Unfortunately the scones are typical American, i.e. not really scones so much as big fat cookies. Serving a heavy sweet thing filled with chocolate chips before the savory sandwiches was all wrong; these were desserts, not the dense biscuit-like British scones I'd been hoping for. I'd go back, but with lowered expectations; the Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis is far better.

I have been here three times, hoping that it would be better each time, but alas! One time, the hostess tried to put us in 'the library' which is actually their decorator sampler showroom, at a huge display table set for three of us. When I asked to be put in another room, the hostess was very petulant and defensive. I also prefer to have a choice of sweets instead of the 'dessert of the month'---not everyone likes raspberry flavoring! For my money, I'll go to the Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis---simply superb!

      Tearoom response:

We welcome all feedback from our guests. We love to hear which foods you enjoyed the most during your visit. I will often go to each guests' table and ask what was their favorite & which was their least. Our menu changes monthly & if I have multiple responses that something was great you can rest assured that it will be back at some point during the year. On the other hand, if I know that there was something lacking then once the month is over you probably won't see that item again! We have also added four new teas to our tea menu. We have a selection of 20 teas to choose from. I would recommend the Chamomile Citrus Blossom or Mango Ceylon for your next visit or you may wish to try one of our new tea based fruit smoothies coming soon in May!

I just got home from visiting my sister in Maryland. While there we visited 4 different tea houses. Tea On The Tiber was our first stop. The tea I had there was the most memorable of all our tea stops. It was excellent. Our service was also great. There was a new gal in training and she was so sweet and attentive. If there is one thing I would have changed it would have been the scones. They were a bit dry, hard and I would have preferred real blueberries to artificial ones. It basically tasted like it was from a mix. Overall I enjoyed my experience greatly.

Let me start with the positives...lovely decor, cozy, charming, nice tea selections. I've been several times, primarily because I live in Howard county and it is the closest teahouse. The food is good, but that's not the biggest draw for me. When I go to tea, I enjoy spending time with my friends in a relaxing setting. The biggest negative for me was that they are quite militant about clearing the place out within 1-1.5 hours. So once you get a good conversation going, the wait staff hovers until you are finally reminded that its time to leave.

      Tearoom response:

We appreciate all the input we receive from our guests. I am sorry that you felt rushed during your tea experience. We do try to make everyone aware when they make reservations that our Afternoon Tea is for a 1.5 - 2 hour time frame. We offer Afternoon Teas at 12:00 & 3:00 and need to be able to have the reserved tables available for those that have made a reservation for the second seating. I would recommend coming to the second seating or coming to tea during the week when you will have more time to sit & relax.

My neices and I all have August birthdays so we celebrated here together. The tea room is LOVELY, we did iced tea as it is summer, the iced chai was the best I have ever had. The scones were wonderful, as were the desserts( Margarita cheese cake). The sandwhiches were wonderful and artfully prepared, though I felt a bit more fruit and cheese could have been added to our tray. The only downside was the server time. We waited VERY long for food after the tea was served, and too long for the check as well. Other than that it was very nice
