    I've been to a lot of very upscale tea rooms in several states, and Tea Upon Chatsworth is one of the best EXCEPT for their appalling lack of service. I personally confirmed reservations weeks ago, yet while I was on vacation I got a telephone message from the owner telling me that one of her employees had made a mistake and that my time 'wasn't available,' in effect giving me and my mom, who was driving from 100 miles away, just one day's notice that our tea was cancelled. Firstly, I was dismayed that the owner laid blame on one of her employees. She, as the owner, is ultimately responsible for anything that happens, and trying to make it sound like it was simply an employee slip-up is extremely unprofessional. Secondly, the owner actually told me in her message that she had booked the entire tearoom for one group, yet somehow she only realized this shortly before our reservation? Obviously, she decided it was worth more to take the group instead of just me and my mom, so for her to tell me that there was a 'reservation mix-up' was disingenuous. Thirdly, the only options my mom and I were given were to have tea at 5:00 (instead of the 2:00 time I'd booked) or to come the following weekend. Had this been a true 'mix-up,' I feel she would have, at the very least, offered to squeeze us in at a small table, but clearly she couldn't do that if she'd already promised the entire tearoom to another party. I'm very disappointed with the bungling inefficiency (at best) or sheer dishonesty (at worst) I encountered in this situation, because Tea Upon Chatsworth is a charming, lovely tearoom in every other respect.

    Dear Heather & Kim,

    I sincerely apologize for the mix-up. Hard as we try to avoid mistakes, while I was away, your reservation was inadvertently taken for a time slot that had been previously booked for a private party since January. Understandably, you are upset but I hope you will find it in your heart in the future to give us another chance to make it right for you and your mom. I appreciate the nice comments you said about Tea-Upon-Chatsworth.
