This little tea room right next to the Cos Cob library has mismatched tables and chairs in a small but airy space. They offer afternoon tea with cucumber, chicken salad and egg sandwiches, a delicious scone and tiny pastries. Also offered are sandwiches, homemade soup of the day and salads. The food, prepared in a tiny kitchen, is remarkable, fresh and tasty. Service is friendly but erratic.
What a find! We went here after a Skidmore graduation, after having discovered the spot while at Saratoga racetrack the previous summer. Both times we had a wonderful time. The afternoon tea is a treat, with copous choices of tea. My children enjoyed the Wee Tea, including pb&J and grapes. They also offer freshly prepared salads and sandwiches, etc. The woody interior is furnished with comfy upholstered chairs and there's a fireplace. You can't go wrong at The Whistling Kettle.
