Simpson House Tea Room
Went to the tea room recently. Was very happy with the appearance of the room and very friendly and helpful wait staff. Unfortunately, the food portions left A LOT to be desired. I had the tea sampler plate which would have left my 5 year old still hungry for something else. The little tea sandwiches, and I do mean LITTLE, came with 3 blackberries and a half of a kiwi, talk about small portions!! For the price, the plate should have had some chips or at least a pickle or coleslaw on it, very disappointing! The dessert was worse, there were only 3 items listed on the dessert menu and not one of them was the scones they offer as 'The Best'. You can only get a scone if you order the plate that it comes with! My cake was so small it looked like it was out of Alice in Wonderland. Everything was a seperate purchase, the tea, the soup,(if you wanted it, I did not) the plate, the dessert. If you want a real nice tea room experience, travel 2 miles north and go the the Coventry Tea Room. Much bigger portions for the price. You can get a 3 course lunch, tea included, and go home with plenty of extra food for the same price.
