My visit to the Strawberry Tea Room was my first tea room experience ever. I went with my mother-in-law, who is a tea connoisseur. I don't actually like tea, but I was into trying the experience. The atmosphere is very girly - old hats, furs, lace curtains - but there were several men eating there too. It is a calm atmosphere, but you didn't feel like if you laughed too loud you'd get dirty looks. It was nice. The food was excellent. I had the Chicken Puff-Pastry and my MIL had a Tuna Salad sandwich. They were both delicious. We also each had the strawberry scones with clotted cream and jam, and they were very good. My MIL had darjeeling loose leaf tea, which she said was excellent, especially with the different foods. She was glad that the leaves had been taken out of the pot before being served. She said they had a good selection. The highlight of the whole experience to me was that we got to sit and talk with Virginia, the owner, for a while. She is a wonderful woman with a big heart and a real desire to serve others and God with her tea room. I was enthralled with the stories of how God has used tea and the tea room in her life, and about little things in the tea room, such as the bench my husband and I were sitting on. (It used to be in an old railway station, and then in her father's Baptist church. She said people used to sit on it to wait for a train, and then people used to wait on God. Beautiful to think of who else may have sat there before us.) I cannot recommend this tea house enough, especially if you get the extra blessing of meeting Virginia. Support this small business - you won't regret it!
