I have had my eye on this place for the last decade since I used to live about a block away from it and never got to visit. I would pass by every day and mean to go in and it just never happened. Roll on a decade later and my friend and I found ourselves out to tea at Abigail's this week and i am suddenly kicking myself for waiting so long. What a delightful treat this place is, such a breath of fresh air. With tea for 2 we started with Pina Colada tea and a green tea for my friend (I forget which), served with little muffin/cake like treats for starters and a very superb Tomato and Basil soup to be going on with. The soup is so good that you won't look at Tomato soup the same, again, it is a perfect blend and light on the basil, you'll certainly like it, even if you aren't a tomato fan. We received a very sizeable salad to follow, with a nice honey mustard dressing for mine and my friend had the vinegrette. This was followed by a very pretty presentation of cut sandwiches of egg, tuna, chicken and cream cheese, with fruits to follow after. Desserts to finish were Strawberry Shortcake and a Tort for my friend. Both were insanely delicious, very pretty and presented well. They were out of the crepes, which I really would like to try in the future, but that strawberry shortcake was just perfect! The entire dining experience was not what I had expected - it was much better! The lady waiting our table was well dressed, very kindly and fun. She was well informed, super-polite and made everything very easy to understand and enjoy without making us feel any less that at home, here. She also encouranged a look upstairs after we had eaten and we found it to be very pretty and time-appropriate and just an all around other-timely experience that just completed the visit. On our way out, we stopped by the gift shop and picked up some pretty earings, though there are plenty of exquisite little tea cups and sets as well as handmade jewellery, some stunning outfits and hats, things for the home - you have to take a good look as there are some fabulous treasures even I think I need to go back for! Over all, what a great experience. I have already decided to go back as soon as possible, and will likely also take my mother in law in future, too, as I think this will be right up her street! If you want to lunch with a friend, like I did, bring your appetite and come hungry! Lots of food, plenty of choice in tea, super atmosphere and wonderful staff make this one of the best couple of hours i've had for a long while and I came out of there totally refreshed and relaxed. Full marks to Abigail's, so, so worth a trip!
