I have been to the Talking Teacup many, many times. While their food is great and their teas wonderful, I find that my grandmother and I feel somewhat alienated in the environment by the owner. She is sweet to everyone else [maybe they are regulars?] but she comes off as very cold towards us. Everyone else is lovely and accommodating and polite. It is hard to make reservations. I've been given a hard time about trying to get a spot even if I call a few days in advance. I understand they have high traffic but they should at least try to work with their clients a bit more instead of saying that they're booked and not providing any open slots on that particular day. I have only ever walked in to their tea room twice but each time, even though there were open tables, I had to go through a bit of a hassle to be seated. I almost felt like they were giving me a hard time because I DIDN'T call in advance. I understand the importance of reservations but they should also understand people like going places spontaneously. I love their decor and collection of teaware.
