My out-of-state cousin and I picked this tearoom because of the reviews. We had previously gone to 'A Time to Remember' in Newcastle, but they have closed their doors. Our loss as this place was a poor second. They were out of a number of teas, the food was mediocre and the service was lacking. I took leftovers home and my husband ate the sandwich we had taken. His comment? The sandwich ingredients didn't go together and the meat and cheese were cheap. We won't be back.

    Tearoom response:

We had a full parlor and we received so many positive comments that day that your review was very surprising and, honestly, a bit harsh...ouch. We did not have your name down on any recent reservations so we assume you were a guest of someone else. You are officially the first guest to ever refer to our food as mediocre and we're so sorry you felt that way. We don't like to disagree with reviews because feedback is helpful and we know people's viewpoints can vary as well as their likes and dislikes. However, because this is a public review for all to read, we feel we should at least respond to a few of the comments that are not so subjective. We offer one of the largest selections of loose leaf teas around (nearly 50) and being out of a few flavors between shipments is common because we try not to overstock (we are currently out of 6 with a shipment arriving any moment). Our meats and cheeses are all premium quality and fresh. On 10/4 we served an assortment of highly praised sandwiches (our famous grilled chicken salad with slivered almonds and sliced grapes, our creamy egg salad with dill, and our cucumber cream cheese with lemon pepper). We have never been told the ingredients didn't go together but, again, we understand tastes vary...but it's really not fair to say the 'meat and cheese were cheap.' We're so sorry you had a negative experience.
