The Pegg House Tea Room
Before my trip to Topsail NC, I searched TeaMap for a tearoom that would possibly be on my way. I called prior to getting to the exit to make sure they were actually serving afternoon tea, and spoke with Ruth the owner. She answered all my questions and filled me with anticipation for my favorite ritual. I was so pleased to see afternoon tea being offered along with a full menu. The atmosphere was peaceful and soothing and though I was dining alone, the conversations in the room were both interesting and informative. Most of the patrons spoke highly of Ruth and raved to their companions about how delicious the tearoom's food was. Ruth asked if I was the one she had spoken with on the phone, and made me feel quite welcome. She was truly a jewel. Ruth's egg salad was delicious as well as the other finger sandwiches that were served, and I simply loved the Cinnamon Plum hot tea. The scones, I can honestly say were some of the best I have ever enjoyed - they were absolutely wonderful. When I told Ruth that having afternoon tea in her establishment was my birthday gift to myself, she surprised me with a slice of strawberry cake that she had placed a lit candle in the middle of it. She will never know how precious the time at her tearoom was to me, nor how much I appreciated her generous hospitality. She has a gift for making one feel special. On the trip back, my sister was with me, and we stopped again so she and some friends could enjoy the experience as well, and they did! I hope if you're in the area, that you too will stop and let Ruth and her staff bring you a great afternoon tea experience! I don't believe you'll be disappointed!
