On my first visit to this tea room over the summer, there was a hair in the devonshire cream on the plate with my scone. It was very obvious. Service was poor so I had to wait outside the kitchen door to get new cream. Today I decided to give this tearoom another chance. Upon entry, my mother and I were yelled at by the owner to close the door because of a fire truck passing by. I guess she thought she was being helpful or possibly funny, but it was extremely rude to tell customers right when they enter to 'Close the door! Close the door!' Also we were constantly reminded of how short of help they were. When we were finally seated, I asked for a list of teas and I was told there was a list but it was easier for them to tell me what they had as they were practically out of everything. The server seemed quite put out when I asked him to name the teas that were available. Service was very slow. I do understand that businesses do, for one reason or another, become short of help, but thats all I heard from those that were there. People don't need to be constantly reminded. The tearoom was very loud, voices carrying easily and echoing around the room. The owner appears to speak loudly naturally as I remember her voice being extraordinarily loud from my first visit. This is unsettling especially when one would like to sit and have a quiet afternoon cup of tea and relax. The most enjoyable part was when the cook came out to give a little talk on the history of tea to the group seated near us. I doubt I'll go back.
