A charming tea house that offers single estate teas, fresh, homemade, varied and delectable scones, tea breads, sandwiches, savories, and desserts. You won't leave the establishment hungry. The price for this feast was far less than it should have been, but I wasn't about to quibble! The owners are a knowledged, accomodating couple and Ginger treated us to a lovely, pitch-perfect rendition of America The Beautiful! Now that's accomodating! I will, without hesitation, return for more 'Moyer Pampering' as soon as possible!
My first (and last) visit to this establishment was in early Jan. Three friends and I decided to start the new year with a Tea. We each ordered the Queen's Tea and, as one companion quipped, 'I am under-whelmed' with this place. The tea was not steeped long enough for my preference, making the beverage taste thin. The tea sandwiches (3) were miserly and tasteless. The scone, while freshly baked, was dry and was served with whipped cream, NOT clotted cream. None of of made a dent in the desserts as they consisted of a Cosco-ish brownie, pound cake, and tea bread. The best part of the meal was the teacup of soup I had and my friends said the salad was good. The service, while slow, was charming as is the atmosphere.
Nestled among historic buildings in Fairfax, VA, the Sweet Life Cafe is a charming establishment with a gourmet flair! I have been to many tea rooms and this is one of the best! My Red Hat Chapter has elected the Sweet Life the choice for birthday celebrations, Teas, and just because it is so much fun visiting and being pampered there. A gourmet chef, Maureen tailors every tea to fit her guests needs/desires. After serving a most impressive Tea, Maureen will entertain the gathering with tales of local lore, history, and hauntings. Quite a delightful experience! The food is to die for and her scones are absolutely the BEST I have ever eaten. A thoughtful and inviting spot for tea. I'll be back again and again.
