Serenity Tearoom & Fine Dining
We went here the weekend after mothers' day, with my mom and sister. We used to work in an excellent tea room together, so we have high expectations. We were sat in a small front room with approximately 10 other diners around us. Because of the size of the room, hardwood floors, and how close we were sat to each other it was hard not to hear others conversations. Once our tea menu had been explained, they did turn the classical music up a bit so that this wasn't as much of an issue. Decor is a little plain and could add more to the atmosphere. The teacups and plates were fine china and very nice, however, we did use paper napkins and for tea I am used to seeing cloth, just a simple nice touch that can go a long way. We had the high afternoon tea, which includes soup. The soups were all cold this day and we each chose the strawberry, very good! Tea was also excellent, served in pots small enough that you didn't get sick of your flavor before starting another, but big enough to share if wanted. Pots of tea did take a bit longer than expected to arrive at the table when refills were requested, typically 10 minutes. All of the food was absolutely wonderful, perfect bite sized portions but we were full when we left. My favorite item was the pesto tomato biscuit, yum, I could eat any entire bag of those things if they would make them for me! Scones were very tasty as well and I recommend eating these first, as they are served warm. Teamsids were very attentive and friendly and seemed to be hustling around to meet everyone's needs in a timely fashion. Once done with tea, there were plenty of cute shops and an antique mall across the street to fill the rest of our afternoon with. Overall, this has been the best tearoom I have been to since being employed at another tearoom that has since closed its doors. The food was superb, and the only thing left to be desired was a better atmosphere. As we were leaving I saw a back patio area with tables that we would like to try next time. It might lend itself to a little more privacy and not quite as much background noise. Plus, I love having tea in gardens. :) We will be going back!
