The English Rose Tea Room and Gifts
I'm a big high tea person and have high expectations when it comes to having high tea. We recently we able to stop at The English Rose to enjoy an afternoon of tea. The decor is cute very English. They have a nice selection of teas. The walls were a bit scuffed (paint completely gone) from people rubbing their chairs up against the wall. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and our table was ready and waiting for us. On Saturday's you can only get the Queens Tea which is $23.00 per person. This is a full service tea which is what I always get when going to high tea however I've never seen it be a required or only option to guests. They have a pretty generous tea selection the only thing I didn't like is most tea houses will give you a description of the teas especially if they have a 'house tea'. All their teas are printed out on a laminated card at your table. Bit on the un-elegant side but I guess it's economical for them. The sandwiches were standard tea fare. I wasn't fond of the burrito type sandwich but the others were standard for high tea (cucumber, egg salad) I liked the Caesar one which was new to me. My friend and I didn't like the quiches they seemed to be overcooked and didn't taste all that good. Seemed to us that they were not fresh possibly frozen item heated for service? Not sure. The one big complaint I have is their scones. Scones are the highlight of tea, and if you are going to import your Devonshire creme from England you should think about importing some scones. I have NEVER had scones that looked and tasted more like Pillsbury biscuits. I was extremely disappointed in the scones. They should definitely rethink the scones! I did like that they provided fresh fruit on the platter and I liked the nuts/craisons that was a nice touch. We received lavender towels before our tea service, and lotion after. Overall it was a lovely tea service, they are extremely friendly and have great presentation. I would definitely go back and would recommend to others.
