  • The Wilmington Tea Room

When I moved to this area, the Wilmington Tea Room quickly became my favorite place to take friends for lunch. The decorating and tea service is both charming and cheerful. I find it delightful that each time I go I get a different china tea service than I have had before. Also, I can't resist putting at least one 'cube' of sugar in my tea with silver tongs (even though I don't use sugar). The tea ritual is calming and lovely. The variety of tea covers at least two pages in the menu but I had the Tuscan Pear on my fist visit and rarely stray from the taste of ripe pears. The staff is always careful to advise the correct timing for every tea. The food takes me back to my childhood when all food was prepared from scratch and cooks loved to have a special ingredient that put their signature on the dish. I especially enjoy the ham sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread, scones and cream, coconut macaroons...oops I could go on for a long time. I have taken my girlfriends from Michigan to the Tea Room, Son #1 and Daughter in law, Daughter in law #2 and two granddaughters (wee tea in real china for a 2 and 3 year old was priceless...wish I could post the pictures, God-daughter and her Mom, neighbors well I guess you get the idea that I love the food, service, atmosphere. Each visit is a memory.
