The Picket Fence & Garden Tearoom
I was extremely disappointed in my visit to the Picket Fence. I have visited many tea rooms over the past two years and have frequently traveled quite a distance to spend a relaxing afternoon having tea, but this time I thought that I would stay local. When we arrived, the place was empty: not an employee was to be seen. After appearing a few minutes later, the cook asked us if we had reservations. Throughout the visit, only two other parties arrived. While we were seated, the cook informed us that our server had left the tea room to visit another store but would be back shortly. After our tea arrived, we realized that the water was tepid, but when we mentioned this, the tea was merely microwaved and the same tea leaves were used, making for very weak tea. The food was no better than the tea: the sandwich fillings were barely noticable, and the bread was prepackaged and store-bought. The desserts consisted of four store-bought miniature pastries, tasting like something from the grocers frozen food aisle, and there was just a sliver of a scone served on the dessert tray. We were not given dessert plates, making it very messy and difficult to eat. I feel that my visit here was a complete waste of my time and I actually left hungry, needing to stop somewhere on the way home to get something more to eat. I will not be returning to the Picket Fence and will discourage my friends from doing the same.
