I'd like to share the following: From the NovDec 2008 Issue of The Tea House Times. The Wilmington Tea Room, 224 S. Water Street, Wilmington, NC, 910-343-1832 www.wilmingtontearoom.com Located on the eastern bank of the Cape Fear River directly on downtown’s historic Riverwalk, the Wilmington Tea Room is perfectly situated to provide a respite from the harried pace of contemporary life. Once inside the Tea Room, visitors are greeted by periwinkle walls and a cheery staff. Tables are set with a mélange of lovely pieces of china, each place setting accentuated with silver and crisp, white, embroidered linens. These subtle touches make the Tea Room comfortable for visitors new to tea rooms, for tourists in their shorts and casual shirts, as well as for brides-to-be and their parties in elegant dresses. The special space of the Wilmington Tea Room is amplified by the assortment of delicious teas and sumptuous savories and sweets. A full tea includes salad or a wonderful seafood bisque, scones with preserves and Devonshire cream, four varieties of sandwiches, assorted baked treats, and fresh fruits. For younger Tea Room visitors, the Wee Tea includes lemonade, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sweets, and fruit. A relative newcomer to Wilmington, I discovered the Tea Room on a rainy day when my brother was in town for a quick visit. We wanted a light lunch and chanced upon the Tea Room. We were both delighted with the attentive service, the delicious food and teas, and the comfortable ambiance. Since then I have been to a baby shower at the Tea Room and was so taken with all of the elements of the morning that I have coordinated three family gatherings there. Each gathering had its own character and level of formality and each time the Tea Room was the perfect spot. While you might find a table for two available on a busy summer afternoon, plan to include a stop at the Wilmington Tea Room by making a reservation and enjoy the anticipation of a charming interlude.
