The Royal Tea Room & Restaurant
I've been going to the Royal Tea Room since they opened. I continue to go because of the homey feel and the staff's attention to customer preferences. The owner is extremely open to customer thoughts and comments, which is refreshing. The overall tea experience changes with the seasons - different specials, new teas and an ecclectic mix of tea accessories and antiques that never stay the same. My English friends agree that the Royal Tea Room is the closest tea shop to those 'back home' in Southern MD, though they also noted there is a refreshing American twist - creative foods and 'non-standard' menu options. I have enjoyed everything from the superb salads and sandwiches, to the high teas. The cream of crab soup is superb, as is the bread pudding. The shop stocks Harney teas, exclsuively (I think), but there is a large variety to choose from. Don't go with pre-conceived ideas of how a tea shop should be - this is a mix of traditional and contemporary, Old World and New.
