At 89 years old I've been to many different tea rooms in my day. Oh my word, years ago you wouldn't go without your hat and gloves. Nowadays anything goes, so despite the fact that this is an upscale tea room, with a plush interior, in this case you could dress up or down, and still feel comfortable, which is fine by me. (Where did I put those white gloves anyway?) Although I've always opted for the 'Royal Tea', they seem to have a large selection of lunch items, so if you have someone along, such as a husband, who doesn't want the dainties, it would be perfectly fine. There is even wine on the menu, should you want a sip with your luncheon. I appreciate the versatility, although I'm probably going to stick with the tea, since it is such a treat. By far, this is the best tea room I've been to. The staff is attentive, the adorable decor changes with the season/holiday, it is very clean, comfortable & the atmosphere is serene. Everyone makes me feel right at home, and the nice young man, John, is a true gentleman. He holds the door open for me, and since I use a walker now, that can take awhile. I've never been to a tea where you received sorbet with a shortbread cookie, then salad, let alone soup, then the tiered tray of sandwiches, a large vanilla scone, & desserts. The food is plentiful & absolutely delicious. I've always had to ask for a box to take my treats home, & they package it so prettily. My favorite salad dressing is peach, and I love either the Ginger Peach tea, or the Winter one. Having been several times now it is clear the tea sandwiches and goodies change constantly, as does the soup. The only repeat has been the cucumber sandwich & vanilla scone. On my birthday I was given a lovely teacup & saucer with a ribbon around it & a crown. What a nice surprise! (I was grateful that they didn't sing 'Happy Birthday'.) Hint: For a special occasion, ask ahead to be seated in the 'Teacup Booth', which is a giant beautifully decorated teacup. It's so fun and plush! This is a hidden treasure in Dixon, and worth going out of your way for. My only complaint is that I don't get around as well as I used to, so I have to wait for a younger friend to drive me, instead of popping by at will. (She is also posting this on my behalf, since I am not computer literate.) Considering the quite reasonable price, I would recommend Linde Lane at any time, not just a special occasion. We all deserve some extra attention, and to feel pampered, for no particular reason. Also, it is more economical for two to have the full tea here, then it is to go out to a restaurant for lunch. I highly recommend Linde Lane Tearoom. Enjoy!
