High Tea Cottage
We had a lovely experience at High Tea Cottage. The antique china was beautiful (over 22 hundred years old!) and the food was marvellous. Meeting Jenn, the proprietor, was a nice experience as well, since she regaled us with a charming tale about a kitten teapot. The food was delicious, the scones flakey and tender, the sandwich combinations each a good complement to one another. It's a tiny place, so the dining experience is very intimate and I expect could feel a bit crowded if a full house, but you have to admire what they've done in such a small footprint. The service was personal and friendly. I really have no complaints, except that their selection of teas is extensive and being offered canisters to smell didn't help me understand what variations to expect in taste. I think it would be useful to have a little more description on the menu of each tea and its nuances. You're still probably going to want to sniff couple to decide! That's the only reason I gave less than 'excellent' for the tea preparation. The tea I picked was full-bodied and delicious and I loved how it was presented and the sugar/cream offered on the table. A wonderful experience and we'll be back with friends and family!
