  • Historic Oakland

Historic Oakland is mostly used as a wedding and special events mansion. However, at certain times a year, they turn it into a tearoom. I went on one of the weekends where it was a tearoom. The menu included Savories of a chicken & cheese croissant, fresh broccoli egg salad on flat bread, cucumber and tomato aspic tea sandwich, and ham and asparagus wrap. The desserts included red velvet & cream cheese frosting cupcake, almond meringue cookies, rainbow cake petit four, and a decadent out of this world good chocolate cherry scone & topping. There were 3 types of tea: sugar plum, decaf peach, and English breakfast. I went with 2 friends and we enjoyed the meal, especially the delicious scones which were extremely fresh. I would have liked more varieties of tea, but outside of this, the food was excellent, the tea was hot, the service was good, the room was spacious and there was ample parking. The mansion doesn't have much in the way of wall-paper or a lot of decor on the walls (the walls were a neutral cream color for the wedding events) so it might not be as fancy smancy as some tea rooms like Tea on the Tiber but it was clean and spacious and it had a nice ballroom type floor. The day I went it was packed to capacity with ladies (and some men) for tea :)

I went here with my family for a mother day/birthday tea. Tea here was fantastic involved several courses - soup, salad, sandwiches, dessert, in addition to the varieties of tea. Also included in the group was an almost 5 year old girl. Not only did they handle my mom, and my sister's mother-in-law's mother's day tea/meals, but also they prepared a special Princess tea for my niece which consisted of a grilled cheese sandwich in the shape of a heart, strawberries, and marshmallow treats (and of course her very own little tea pot) as well as a set of stickers to play with. The two men in my group (dad and brother) were also very pleased at the variety of the tea and courses. The location is also along a river and in a quiet overall area with quaint shops. It was a fun time for all. We were very pleased. I had 9 adults and 1 child in my group.

    Tearoom response:

Janet, We enjoyed your family and are glad you enjoyed your tea experience! It was so nice to meet you! Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to your next visit! Piper

Absolutely excellent - a tea room you rate all the others against! I've been here 3 times - with my mother for mother's day a few years ago, with my sister a few months ago, and with friend just last week. The food is fresh and decorative and the menu changes every month. You never leave hungry like with some other so called tea rooms. The service is excellent (the servers wear a black and white uniform and are very pleasant and helpful). I went to the Aylesbury tea room in Leesburg and also Cafe Anglais in the past month, and I can tell you that they didn't even compare in service, food, selection of tea, or atmosphere to Tea on the Tiber. The owners of Tea on the Tiber did a tour of tea rooms in England so that they would be prepared when they opened their tea room. Their efforts show every time I go there. This place is just spectacular!
