This is the best tea room I've been to yet (and I used to live in England). They not only offer an endless pot of tea, with the option of switching to another kind of tea once you've emptied your pot, but they prepare it properly -- steeped and the tea removed before they bring you a full pot! And I like my tea strong. The food was beyond delicious, particularly the cashew chicken salad, a thick paste that was incredibly flavorful in a tiny pastry shell. On learning that my companion was vegetarian, they cheerfully substituted more crostini and egg-salad sandwiches for the two meat sandwiches. The scones were feather-light and hot out of the oven, the peach and mixed-berry jams tasted of fruit rather than of sugar (although we'd have liked a dab more of the jams). The service was excellent, the atmosphere lovely and relaxing. I can't rate this place highly enough.

The atmosphere was lovely, but the service was very slow; our waitress took forever even to start taking our order. Fortunately I like my tea very strong so I didn't mind waiting for our food; we'd ordered the savory tea. Unfortunately the scones are typical American, i.e. not really scones so much as big fat cookies. Serving a heavy sweet thing filled with chocolate chips before the savory sandwiches was all wrong; these were desserts, not the dense biscuit-like British scones I'd been hoping for. I'd go back, but with lowered expectations; the Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis is far better.
