If i had gone for just to purchase tea, I would have been happy. I was looking for a place to sit down, have a light lunch and do some reading. The shop is full of stuff to purchase and teas to purchase, but lacking in the customer service. The servers seem to be bored college students who have better things to do than wait on me. The area was a bit cramped up front, where I sat, and the back is more for visiting. The turkey sandwich I got was good and the Caramel Chocolate tart was out of this world! It just wasn't the atmosphere for me. Too trendy and not 'homey' enough.
I went for a quick cup of tea. I didn't have much time, so, I didn't try the food. It was nice to stop for a few and have a great mug of tea! The feel of the place is great, it's quiet and homey and there is WiFi available. It's a great place to go with friends and chill out with a snack and cup of tea. I'll definately be back for the HUGE variety of teas. The one thing I thought was really cool was that you could see tea samples in little clear glass jars and pop the cork to smell them if you want to.
I visited Tea Upon Chatsworth while in San Diego for Comic Con. I'm just getting into going to Tea Houses and still have a lot of questions. Our server answered my 'stupid' questions and gave me some information on naturally decaffienating tea. She was gracious and quick (though she was the only one there). The owner came by, asked how we liked it and wanted to know what our favorite parts of the high tea were. I felt like I was WAY underdressed for a tea house, but she was just as courteous and gracious and never blinked an eye. The gazpacho ROCKED. The food was good and it was nice to sit back and relax and havea nice slow tea. My only complaint were the deserts. I don't care for 'creamy' cakes and deserts, so all I got was once small cookie, but how is she to know that? I'll be back when I'm in San Diego again!
