Crown & Crumpet is a stylish English Tearoom that was located in San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square since 2008. We have grown out of our location there and we are moving the Tea Salon to downtown San Francisco in the next few months. When we open you can expect the perfect Afternoon Tea Experience with great food, delicious tea, served with great charm and wit. Our Pastry chef prepares everything fresh and seasonal everyday. Our teas are loose leaf and varied and our menu extends to "Elevenses", light lunches and of course proper Afternoon Tea service. In our new, bigger and better location we will have not one but two loos, a private party room and a Gentleman's 18th century inspired library! If you have been to Crown & Crumpet before you will know all of the above are very important components to having an even more delightful experience then before!!

We regret to inform you there is not a doily insight, no plastic flowers or chipped china to be found..just happy chintz, subtle chandeliers and our own logo'd china! Come and visit us soon and remember... In Tea we Trust!

Some of the tastiest house blend teas I've ever tried! They don't shy away from odd and exotic ingredients and combinations in their brews, but they've got the classics covered as well. The same goes for their food offerings. They have all the standards you'd expect, but often with an unexpected twist. The atmosphere is a little more modern, despite some Victorian touches where possible, but they take the decor up a notch for a delightful Halloween tea during the spooky season!

It's a very fun colorful place, but it doesn't have the atmosphere I most enjoy in a tea room. It's more like a trendy cafe than a cozy, comfortable, quiet place to have tea and enjoy a couple of scones.

This place has not moved (?) It's in Japan town and I just went there twice to celebrate high tea - both on Queen Elizabeth jubilee celebration and Christmas tea. They always have festive events and gifts for these evens.

This place was lovely. I loved that they had high tea along with the option for full meals. I will be honest, that I don't remember the teas particularly well, but I do remember enjoying myself a great deal.

My husband took me to lunch for our Anniversary and we had a wonderful time! We had just recently returned to the states from living in the UK and we were craving British food. What a lovely place. The food was delicious and so was the tea, I bought some of the house blend to bring home. I would highly recommend the Crown & Crumpet and can't wait to go back!

My friend and I visited for the first time today. It was to celebrate my birthday. We had a wonderful time. Amy is a delight and her staff very friendly. The food arrived quickly, and the scones and crumpets were warm. It is always nice to have real devon cream at a tearoom. The sandwiches were fresh and the desserts were yummy. A real treat for any occasion or a good cuppa!

my daughters loved it and the grown-ups are all in love with the fig tea! the food was very good. warm scones were amazing! my only suggestion would be to offer a choice of sandwiches instead of fixed menu. we are vegetarians and my kids only wanted the cucumber sandwiches, but it wasn't easy to order more of those. otherwise, it was a wonderful experience!!! :)

I had my first afternoon tea experience last year at Crown & Crumpet in May of 2009. It was one of the best experiences i've ever had. I had so much fun. The place was really pretty, the food was delicious, the staff was really nice. I will definitely be going back and bring my other friends to experience it too.

Four of us just came back from Crown and Crumpet. We go to many many tea rooms, and just love trying new places.

The owners and staff of Crown and Crumpet were WONDERFUL! When I said I liked my tea and soup hot, I received it hot. The decor is lovely airy, and not too fru-fru. Once again the staff was great. We were there quite awile and were not a bit rushed.

We think the only thing that they need to work on is the food, especially the sandwiches. Although fresh, (to me, very important) somewhat.ordinary. All on white or wheat bread. Example, perhaps some fillings could be on baggetts, tiny cream puffs, or mini- muffins, maybe even one served warm. All in all we will go back. Great afternoon.

The monthly 'meeting' of our Tea Ladies Group recently convened at C&C and found it a wonderful experience - one of the BEST in the Bay Area. Even our resident British citizen (who had until C&C never found a decent scone) was impressed! We will be back again!

We have a group of six women that go to tea once a month. We have looked forward to having tea at 'Crown & Crumpet' for a while. We made it there today and while we all loved the décor, we were not impressed with the service or the food. Come on $8 for a pot of tea! This place is over prices for what they serve and the service was just so so. One of us was served cold Quiche and had to ask for it to be heated, then they forgot to bring it back. They did comp her lunch and that was the least they could have done. There are better tea rooms in the Bay Area that give you better food and service for your money. We will not be going back.

My family enjoyed afternoon tea last week while vacationing in San Francisco. My husband and son were both very comfortable and there were a few other gentlemen in the room as well. (Some previous reviewers thought this shop to be very girlish, but all the men I saw appeared very comfortable.) The food and tea were excellent! Fresh hot scones were delicious. My favorite tea of the 3 I tried was the Paris. It is delightful.

What a delightful tearoom! In a cheerful yet relaxing atmosphere, my sister and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea. We selected Merry Mango and Piccolo and loved both choices. The scones were warm, fresh and served with ample condiments. Our server was pleasant and attentive and we left full and content!

My sister and I just completed a West Coast/ Tearoom tour and 'Crown & Crumpet' was on the list. What a charming little tearoom. Very whimsical. I loved it. Our waitress was quirky and wonderful. It went well with the entire atmosphere of the place. We did the tea for two and picked Calcutta Assam and Paris as our pot choices. Both were wonderful. An enchanting place all around.

I went to Crown and Crumpet with 7 others from children to adults. Everyone enjoyed their food (tea sandwiches, scones, desserts) but the tea wasn't served hot enough and quickly became cool and we were never refilled.

The atmosphere of the tea room is especially fun, with creative and colorful decorations to look at all around. The style ranges from that of a candy shop in London to a Parisian cafe.

One disappointing aspect of our tea time was the service. We ran out of several condiments and were left with cool tea and empty water glasses for much of the seating. With a few adjustments this tea room could really be wonderful!!

Crown and Crumpet is a cute little tearoom in an awesome location. The cost ($21.00) is quite reasonable considering the amount of food you receive (I have paid much more at many of the over 30 tearooms I have visited). The teas were quite varied and the scones were excellent.

There were only three concerns: you cannot change 'flavors' for your second pot of tea (no big deal, but not fun), when sharing a 'tea for two' you are given only one of some of the sandwiches instead of 2, necessitating in having to pick who would eat the egg salad, cucumber, etc. (not fair), and there were four seafood sandwiches in the mix - two smoked salmon (think sushi) and two shrimp salad (not bad, but still seafood).

In most regards, it was a fun experience, wonderful service, and reasonable in pricing. I do recommend a visit!!

My friend Kate and I had tea at the Crown and Crumpet on Saturday. We made a special trip from Sacramento, after seeing the tearoom in a magazine. It was everything we had hoped for!! Special thanks to Holly (our trolley dolly) for taking such good care of us. I will definitely visit again and bring friends with me!

Amazing service AND the best tea sandwiches and savories I have ever had, bar none. I thought this tea house topped Tea Map's number one listed teahouse, but I am certain it is only because the Crown and Crumpet has 9 reviews on your site. Hopefully more people will continue to share their delightful experiences of this wonderful tearoom!

My daughter and I recently visited San Francisco and we discovered your tearoom. The cozy warm feeling of home greets you at the door. The food was delicious and tea was great. This touched a special place in my heart as it reminded me of the teas with my mom who passed away several years ago. What a wonderful, sweet memory for my daughter and I to share in an unexpected place. Thank you so much.

I am a chef at a tea room in the bay area. I must say that this tea room is one of the best. The scones were wonderful (some of the best I have eaten) as well as the lemon curd. The sandwiches were fresh and very tasty. The short bread cookies…………..were so good I would really like the recipe. The service was friendly and made us feel right at home. I can’t wait to return.

My daughter and I had the pleasure to visit San Francisco together. Tea at Crown and Crumpet was our favorite thing about the whole trip! Which is saying quite a lot, because we LOVE San Francisco. The decor is friendly, inviting and whimsical. The staff is warm and welcoming. It was a fun and upbeat place to have a proper afternoon tea! As a Tea Room owner myself, I appreciate all the effort and care that has gone into making Crown and Crumpet such a unique experience!

What a fabulous spot for tea. We went for the breakfast tea, to try something different and it was so yummy. The food was wonderful and the staff were all so sweet. Our server, Paula (I think I got the name correct) was so helpful with her suggetions. You have to try the cinnamon toast, it reminded me of the toast my mom made for my sister and I when we very little, very cinnamony! We got lucky and were able to chat with the owner, Amy. She is as sweet as can be. Can't wait to go back and try the afternoon tea. Again, what a fun and whimsicle place to share tea with a group of friends.

We came during their opening week. The room was cute, but the description we were given on the phone was that it was Alice in Wonderland theme and looked wild and crazy. So expecting that fun we were a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's cute but I spent my time thinking hmmm, this doesn't seem over the top? And I couldn't figure out why they would cover those beautiful chandeliers with the shades. Nonetheless, the food was good, however while I am used to tea foods being tiny, I thought the amount of food was extremely small for the price of it. The fairy cakes were tasty indeed though. There was a bit of chaos between the front register cashier needing instruction from the back cashier (which I didn't understand why they needed two cash registers). It's in a good space in Ghiradelli Square and gets quite a bit of foot traffic so I'm certain they will be around for a while. Perhaps some fine tuning/time and we will return.
